The 2023 Pininfarina Battista, a carbon fiber electric sports car from the automotive division of the renowned design house, has set new acceleration records. This new Italo-Croatian supercar is not from Ferrari, Maserati, or Lamborghini. The appointment of new CEO Paolo Dellacha earlier this month seems to have led to this achievement.

Pininfarina journeyed to India to establish new quarter-mile and half-mile acceleration records, potentially to enhance its footprint in that market. Hormazd Sorabjee of Autocar India served as an official observer and accomplished a top speed of 358.03 km/h or roughly 223 mph, thereby securing an Indian milestone.

In a remarkable feat, Renuka Kirpalani, an Autocar India representative, attained a velocity of 357.10 km/h, equivalent to approximately 222 mph, thereby claiming the distinction of being India’s fastest woman in a road car ever. While this is a noteworthy accomplishment, the Pininfarina Battista is on a mission to achieve even greater milestones and is striving to set several world records during the current week.

The Battista, driven by Development Driver Stefano Costa, is purported to have set a new world record for the quarter-mile acceleration time, clocking in at 8.55 seconds, as per the VBOX data. Furthermore, the Battista has established a new half-mile acceleration record of 13.38 seconds. The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the Indian sporting body affiliated with the FIA, has validated the speed records.

Pininfarina Battista broke the previous quarter-mile record set by Rimac Nevera, despite sharing many components. Battista set a new record time of 8.55 seconds, beating Rimac’s time of 8.582 seconds. However, external factors such as wind could have played a role in this small difference. The two cars were tested at different locations, with Battista tested in India and Nevera in California. It would be interesting to conduct further tests with the Battista in the future to see if Pininfarina’s times can be improved upon.
