While a considerable number of individuals find themselves irresistibly drawn to buying new cars, most people strive to retain their vehicles for as long as they can. This places a premium on longevity and dependability, although even the most frugal individuals tend to contemplate purchasing a new car before reaching the 250,000-mile mark. Nonetheless, several models do achieve this remarkable milestone, and according to iSeeCars’ recent study, certain models exhibit a significantly higher likelihood of enduring the test of time compared to others.

In an extensive analysis conducted by iSeeCars, over 260 million cars sold between 2012 and 2022 were examined. The study involved constructing a model that determined the average expected odometer reading for each year throughout the lifespan of the vehicles. Using this data, iSeeCars calculated the percentage likelihood of a vehicle reaching the impressive milestone of 250,000 miles. The study’s findings revealed that, on average, there is an 11.8% chance for a vehicle to endure for such an extended distance.

Unsurprisingly, Toyota and Honda vehicles earned their place on the list of long-lasting cars, but it’s worth noting that several pickup trucks also made the cut. Here are the top 10 vehicles with the highest likelihood of reaching 250,000 miles:

The remaining positions on the list are occupied by vehicles like the Toyota Avalon, which has a 33.1% chance of reaching 250,000 miles, the Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 31% likelihood, and the Honda Element with a 27.8% probability. For the complete list, refer to the iSeeCars report

According to iSeeCars, the extended lifespan of trucks can be attributed to their intended purpose as reliable work vehicles. This explains why the Toyota Land Cruiser and Sequoia consistently rank high on lists of longevity and reliability. Although they didn’t secure spots on the overall top list, the Toyota Sienna and Toyota Avalon emerged as leaders in their respective segments, further emphasizing Toyota’s commitment to durability and dependability.

Naturally, it’s important to acknowledge that there are always exceptions and variations when it comes to these types of lists. The maintenance and driving habits of the owner significantly influence the longevity of a vehicle, and even the most reliable Toyota model can encounter issues if neglected. With sufficient care and effort, almost any vehicle has the potential to reach the 250,000-mile mark. However, it’s worth noting that there may come a point where the costs of maintenance surpass the value of the car.
