In a landmark year, BMW Group achieved record-breaking sales in 2023, selling 2,555,341 units, a 6.5% increase over the previous year. This growth was significantly fueled by a 15% increase in Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) sales, demonstrating BMW’s commitment to e-mobility. The BMW brand led the global premium segment, with Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad also hitting new sales records.
Jochen Goller, a member of BMW AG’s Board of Management, attributed this success to the group’s strong brands and diverse product range, which includes a variety of drive technologies. The fourth quarter of 2023 saw a notable 10.3% sales increase, with 718,778 units sold.
BMW Group’s BEV sales saw a significant rise, with 376,183 fully-electric units sold in 2023, marking a 74.4% year-on-year growth. This outperformance in the BEV sector highlights BMW’s pioneering role in electromobility. Looking to 2024, the group aims to continue this trajectory, with plans to sell over half a million fully-electric vehicles.
The BMW brand itself delivered 2,253,835 vehicles in 2023, up 7.3% from the previous year. Electric models like the BMW iX1 and BMW i4 were key sales drivers. BMW M GmbH also had a record year, selling 202,530 performance cars, with the BMW i4 M50 as the top-selling model.
MINI brand sales increased slightly to 295,474 units, with electric models making up 15.3% of total sales. The fully-electric MINI Cooper SE Convertible was a notable success, quickly selling out in most markets.
Rolls-Royce also celebrated a historic year with 6,032 cars sold, the highest in its history, driven by strong global demand and bespoke orders. The introduction of the fully-electric Rolls-Royce Spectre marked a significant milestone.
BMW Motorrad had its best year ever, selling 209,257 motorcycles and scooters, a 3.1% increase from the previous year, driven by new model launches and strong sales in multiple regions.
