The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is set to make a grand re-entrance into the market in its second year with significant enhancements, most notably a larger battery promising extended range. Despite these upgrades, the base model maintains its price from the previous year, offering a blend of innovation and value.

The 2024 iteration of the EQS SUV introduces a robust 118-kWh battery, a substantial increase from the 2023 model’s 108.4-kWh version. While specific range estimates for the new model are yet to be released, its predecessor achieved an impressive EPA range estimate of up to 305 miles, setting high expectations for the 2024 model.

Remarkably, the pricing for the entry-level EQS 450+ model, featuring rear-wheel drive, remains steady at $105,550. An optional upgrade to all-wheel drive, achieved through a dual-motor setup with motors at both axles, is available for an additional $3,000.

The EQS 450+ model, whether in rear-wheel or all-wheel-drive format, boasts a power output of 355 hp. However, the all-wheel-drive variant offers enhanced torque, elevating its performance credentials.

For those seeking more power, the EQS 580 grade stands as a compelling choice, equipped with standard all-wheel drive and a formidable 536 hp. The 2024 model sees a slight price increase to $128,500, compared to the 2023 version’s $127,100 starting price.

The pinnacle of the lineup is the Maybach EQS 680 grade, arriving at a starting price of $181,050. This luxurious grade features standard all-wheel drive and an impressive 649 hp power output, encapsulating the epitome of electric luxury and performance. All prices include a $1,150 destination charge.

Beyond the battery enhancement, the 2024 EQS SUV lineup benefits from a refined braking system. Mercedes asserts this revision improves brake feel, particularly during energy recovery phases. Additionally, the SUVs are equipped with a heat pump aimed at boosting efficiency in colder weather. The all-wheel-drive models further improve efficiency with a new feature that shifts from all-wheel to two-wheel drive when full traction isn’t necessary.

The 2024 model also ups the ante with more standard features. Highlights include the MBUX Hyperscreen digital dash, 21-inch wheels, an ambient lighting package, illuminated running boards, a powered charging port door, rear seat comfort pillows, and the EQ sound experience. Standalone options now include soft-close doors and a head-up display augmented with reality technology.

Manufactured at Mercedes’ Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant, the EQS SUV shares its production space with the smaller EQE SUV and several gas-powered models. However, there are indications that Mercedes plans to shift the production of the EQS SUV’s successor to a German plant, potentially making room at the U.S. facility for an upcoming electric GLC-Class model.

This move by Mercedes-Benz signifies not just an advancement in electric vehicle technology but a commitment to combining luxury with eco-friendly innovation, setting a new standard in the premium SUV market for 2024 and beyond.
