Tesla’s Model Y Program Manager Exits a Day After Cybertruck Lead

Just a day after Tesla’s Cybertruck program lead stepped down, another major figure has left the company — this time from the team behind its best-selling vehicle.

Emmanuel Lamacchia, who managed Tesla’s global Model Y program, announced his resignation on Sunday, less than 24 hours after Siddhant Awasthi — the head of the Cybertruck project — revealed his own departure on November 10, 2025.

Both exits come as a surprise given how central these two executives were to Tesla’s modern lineup. Awasthi, who started as an intern eight years ago, became instrumental in bringing the stainless-steel Cybertruck to production before recently taking over the Model 3 program. Lamacchia, who joined in 2018, led the Model Y’s international rollout and helped turn it into the world’s best-selling car — a milestone few automakers have ever reached.

In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, Lamacchia described his Tesla journey as “unforgettable,” reflecting on his path from early work on Model 3 variants to overseeing the Model Y’s evolution across multiple factories.

His departure adds to a growing list of senior leaders leaving the company as Tesla pivots toward robotaxis and AI-led initiatives — a shift that’s seen the exits of other key managers like Daniel Ho and David Zhang earlier this year.

Despite record deliveries in the third quarter, largely driven by U.S. buyers rushing to secure a $7,500 EV tax credit before it expired on September 30, analysts warn that the coming months could be challenging as Tesla faces shrinking incentives and growing competition.

With the heads of both the Cybertruck and Model Y programs gone within a single day, Tesla now enters a critical phase — balancing its bold vision for autonomy and AI with the stability needed to sustain its most successful products.
