A new era has begun for Suzuki Motor. Today, the automaker’s very first Electric Suzuki rolled off the production line in India, marking a historic step for the Japanese brand. The launch was celebrated at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling it a “big leap” for India’s Make in India dream.
India at the Heart of the Electric Suzuki
India isn’t just Suzuki’s biggest market — it’s now the home of the Electric Suzuki. Over the next five to six years, Suzuki will pour $8 billion into the country to expand EV production. The Gujarat facility, already buzzing with activity, is set to grow into one of the largest auto manufacturing hubs in the world, with capacity for one million vehicles a year.
From here, Suzuki’s electric cars will travel far beyond Indian roads. The company plans to export the Electric Suzuki lineup to more than 100 countries, reaching markets from Japan to Europe — even as global EV demand faces headwinds.

Meet the e-Vitara: The First Electric Suzuki SUV
Leading this charge is the e-Vitara, a mid-sized SUV and the very first Electric Suzuki to hit mass production. Designed to go head-to-head with rivals like Hyundai’s Creta and Mahindra’s XEV 9e, the e-Vitara is Suzuki’s answer to the growing appetite for electric SUVs in India and abroad.
A Celebration of Partnership
At the launch event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Maruti Suzuki as a shining example of the partnership between India and Japan. He urged citizens to support locally made products, reminding them that every car built in India — including the Suzuki EV — plays a role in strengthening the nation’s future.
More Than Just a Car
For Suzuki, the first Electric Suzuki is more than a new model; it’s a statement of intent. It shows how the company is adapting to an industry in transformation, where electrification and innovation are reshaping the rules of competition.
As the very first Electric Suzuki leaves the factory floor, it carries with it not only the hopes of the brand, but also India’s growing influence in the global automotive story.
