The automotive world had plenty to talk about this week, with long-awaited sports cars making headlines, new electric vehicles entering the spotlight, and an old-fashioned engine rivalry heating up. From Tesla’s Roadster and Saudi Arabia’s growing automotive ambitions to Bentley’s electric future and McLaren’s refreshed identity, here are five stories that caught our attention.
Tesla Roadster Returns After Nine Years of Waiting
Nearly nine years after introducing the second-generation Roadster prototype in 2017, Tesla has reopened reservations for its long-awaited electric sports car.
Customers looking to secure one will need to put down a $50,000 deposit, starting with an initial payment of $5,000, followed by another $45,000 through a bank transfer.
The timing is particularly interesting, as Tesla is preparing for an unveiling event scheduled for October 1 at a SpaceX testing facility in Texas. After years of waiting, attention is once again turning to the Roadster and what Tesla has planned for its return.
Saudi Arabia’s Ceer Unveils Its First Vehicles Ahead of Local Production
Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to establish its own automotive industry took another step forward this week as Ceer unveiled its first vehicles under the Xbot name.
The initial lineup includes sedans and SUVs, but the company has much bigger plans. Over the next five years, Ceer aims to introduce seven models, eventually expanding its range to include smaller and midsize vehicles.
What makes this development particularly significant is that the vehicles have been designed and engineered in Saudi Arabia. Production is also planned to take place locally at Ceer’s industrial complex in King Abdullah Economic City.
The unveiling marks an important milestone for the Saudi automotive industry as the Kingdom moves closer to manufacturing vehicles under its own national brand.
Bentley Tourcal 2027 Brings 875 HP to the Electric Luxury Segment
Bentley is entering a new chapter with the introduction of the 2027 Tourcal, its first fully electric vehicle. ArabGT founder Musab Shashaa attended the unveiling, where the British manufacturer presented its vision for combining electric performance with its traditional approach to luxury and craftsmanship.
The new luxury SUV certainly doesn’t hold back when it comes to performance. The Tourcal S produces up to 875 horsepower and 1,350 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds.
Bentley also claims a driving range of 600 kilometers, while the battery can reportedly be charged from 10% to 80% in just 16 minutes.
With these figures, Bentley is looking to bring the performance expected of a powerful electric vehicle into the luxury SUV segment without abandoning the character that has defined the brand for decades.
McLaren Refreshes Its Identity and Prepares to Expand Its Lineup
McLaren is preparing for a new chapter, starting with a refreshed visual identity that pays tribute to its racing heritage while looking toward the company’s future.
The British manufacturer has introduced redesigned lettering inspired by the garage associated with its founder, Bruce McLaren, in New Zealand. Its famous Speedmark logo has also received an update, featuring smoother lines that emphasize the brand’s connection to aerodynamics.
The first vehicle to wear the new identity will be the McL 6GT concept, which features something enthusiasts will certainly appreciate: a manual transmission with a clutch pedal.
The updated branding will gradually appear across McLaren’s production vehicles, racing teams, showrooms, and digital platforms as the company prepares to expand beyond its traditional supercar lineup.
General Motors Takes Aim at Ford With a Massive 8.3-Liter Duramax V8
While much of the automotive industry continues to focus on electrification, General Motors is preparing to reignite a familiar rivalry in the world of heavy-duty pickup trucks.
The American manufacturer has released a teaser for a new 8.3-liter Duramax turbocharged V8 diesel engine, carrying the codename Mongoose.
The choice of name is no coincidence. Ford’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine is known internally as Scorpion, and General Motors made its intentions clear with a promotional video showing a mongoose confronting a scorpion.
The new Duramax is expected to make its way into the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD, replacing the current 6.6-liter engine, which produces 470 horsepower and 1,322 Nm of torque.
