The 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV Reveals Its Power

Today we will introduce the power of the new 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV (plug-in hybrid) that was recently officially unveiled by the Korean manufacturer.

As fans of Korean cars may recall, last March witnessed the launch of the new generation of this SUV equipped with three rows of passenger seats, and this new car will be available for sale in global markets during the end of this year as a 2021 model, but today we will talk about the new Kia Sorento Hybrid that will be sold in the market next year as a 2022 model, God willing.

We have already told you that the shape of the new Sorento is very distinct and different from the identity of its crossover sisters,  the 2021 Sportage, the 2021 Telluride, and the 2021 Seltos, although it retained the distinctive tiger nose grill, it was equipped with a new chassis, making it more lightweight and flexible.

This version is based on the Plug-in Hybrid system (the batteries are charged through an electric socket like a mobile when the car is parked). The system contains a turbo 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine connected to a 6-speed automatic transmission, and a 67-kilowatt electric motor that gets Its power  from a 13.9 kW battery, and the two engines together produce 261 hp.

This hybrid car can travel up to 48 km (30 miles) by relying on electric power only per one charge, and this version comes as standard with a full-wheel drive system.

As a reminder, these are the other engine options available in the global markets on the new Sorento:

  • A 5-liter T-GDi engine with 277 hp and 421 Nm of torque.
  • A hybrid version (Not Plug-in Hybrid) that combines of a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor , for a total power of 227 hp and 350 Newton meters of torque.
  • A 4-cylinder 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine that generates 198 hp and 440 Newton meters of torque.
