Stellantis has announced a major recall affecting more than 1.3 million Jeep vehicles worldwide, after discovering a potential fire risk linked to the power steering system.
The recall covers Jeep Wrangler SUVs and Jeep Gladiator trucks from model years 2021 to 2025. The problem comes from an electrical connection in the wiring of the electric hydraulic power steering pump. If that connection becomes loose, it can overheat, melt, and in rare cases start a fire.
For now, Stellantis is asking owners to park their vehicles outside and away from garages, buildings, and other cars until the issue is fixed.
The company says it has received reports of at least 72 fires that may be related to the problem, along with one reported injury. Nearly 1.08 million of the affected vehicles are in the United States, with more units recalled in Canada, Mexico, and other global markets.
The issue had already been under investigation by U.S. safety regulators since September 2024, after reports suggested that some Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models could catch fire even while parked with the ignition switched off.
Stellantis previously looked into similar fire reports in 2023 and early 2024, but closed the review because the number of cases was low. The company reopened the investigation in August 2024 after seeing more incidents linked to the same electrical connection.
After more than a year of testing and analysis, Stellantis concluded in late May that the issue could pose a safety risk. The fix will include inspecting the wiring harness and the electric hydraulic power steering pump, then repairing or replacing parts when needed.
Stellantis says it is working to make the repair available as quickly as possible, with the final solution expected no later than July.
