A New Electric Pickup Will Bare Hummer Name
We haven’t heard about the upcoming new Hummer pickup for a while now, the last thing we heard was that the new Hummer will appear during the American Super Bowl, the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL).
Today, we got a teaser image officially released by General Motors Corporation, to pave the way for the launch of a fully electric pickup vehicle, and we see in the photo a truck profile drawn with a blue line indicating the electricity power, above it the phrase: “Our electric future is now”
When General Motors talk about an electric pickup that will be launched soon, this means we are talking about the return of the Hummer brand in a new model and a new identity that will be powered by the energy of the future, electricity. This also means that the upcoming Hummer pickup will compete against Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, and Ford F-150 Electric Truck.
General Motors has also announced that it will invest 2.2 billion US dollars, equivalent to approximately 8.25 billion Saudi riyals, in developing new assembly lines for the production of the new Hummer models at Detroit Hamtramck plant. The American company also said that production is scheduled to begin in the end of next year, 2021.
General Motors made the decision to close the Detroit Hamtramck plant last summer, but postponed this decision to February 2020, until they finish off the production of Chevrolet Impala and Cadillac CT6. However, they kept the facility as part of the company’s contract with UAW, and now they started to prepare the factory to produce the upcoming electric pickup vehicles that will bare Hummer name, and the number of employees will be raised from 900 to more than 2,200 employees at this plant.
