Vietnam has just unveiled something extraordinary — a luxury electric SUV tough enough to survive machine-gun fire and even grenade blasts. Meet the Lạc Hồng 900 LX, a high-security armored SUV that has earned the coveted VPAM VR7 certification, proving it can handle some of the harshest ballistic tests in the world.
This beast is the product of a unique collaboration between Canadian armoring specialists INKAS and Vietnam’s rising EV brand VinFast. While VinFast might not yet be a common sight on American roads, it dominates the streets in its home country. And now, with the 900 LX, it has entered a whole new league — blending luxury, electric mobility, and military-grade protection in one package.
Unlike the everyday VinFast models built for families, the 900 LX feels tailor-made for top executives and government officials who want refinement and comfort without compromising safety.
Tested Under Fire
A demonstration video shows the SUV on display after brutal testing. Bullet marks are visible across its body, including the doors, rear, and roof. Beside it, a plaque from Germany’s Beschussamt Ulm Center confirms the VR7 ballistic rating.
To achieve that, the 900 LX absorbed 440 rounds of high-caliber ammunition, with reinforced glass and armor keeping the interior intact. INKAS went further, proving it can withstand the simultaneous explosion of two DM51 grenades. Despite all that firepower, the armored version looks almost identical to the standard VinFast VF 9 — a hidden fortress in plain sight.
Power Meets Protection
Under the skin, both the standard VF 9 and the armored 900 LX carry a 123 kWh CATL battery. The regular VF 9 delivers 402 hp and 620 Nm of torque, good for 0–100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.
The armored 900 LX has been boosted to 455 hp, though the extra weight of its armor stretches acceleration to 9.8 seconds. A small price to pay when you’re driving a vehicle that can shrug off bullets and grenades.
