Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Challenges Porsche’s Nürburgring Record

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Challenges Porsche’s Nürburgring Record

Xiaomi’s highly anticipated electric super sedan, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, recently made waves by clocking an astonishing lap time on Germany’s famed Nürburgring Nordschleife, setting a new standard for four-door vehicles. This prototype achieved a lap in just 6 minutes and 46.874 seconds over the 12.9-mile track, edging past previous records and showing Xiaomi’s determination to establish itself among the fastest EVs in the world.

Highlights from Xiaomi’s record-breaking endeavor include:

  • Exceptional Speed and Power: The prototype’s lap time of 6:46.874 puts it ahead of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT’s 7:07.55 record. Although the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra ’s lap was interrupted by a momentary power drop, as noted in video footage at the 4:15 mark, it still managed to surpass Porsche’s time and the previous production EV record of 7:05:298 held by the Rimac Nevera. Xiaomi’s electric sedan packs a formidable three-motor system expected to deliver an official 1,527 horsepower, rivaling some of the world’s fastest performance cars.
  • Race-Ready Configuration: While this was a remarkable demonstration of the SU7 Ultra’s capabilities, the prototype was far from a production model. With a stripped-down cabin, a racing-oriented steering wheel, and specialized, non-road-approved tires, Xiaomi designed this test vehicle for peak performance. It lacked features standard in road-ready models, emphasizing Xiaomi’s focus on raw speed over comfort during this run.

  • Upcoming Specifications and Market Plans: The final production model, set to debut in 2025, will include similar impressive stats, with Xiaomi aiming to retain the tri-motor setup producing around 1,527 horsepower, promising a 0-62 mph time of 1.98 seconds, and a top speed of 217 mph. A regular SU7, which offers 295-hp and 664-hp variants, had launched in China last year with a starting price of $30,000. Meanwhile, the premium SU7 Ultra, available for pre-order at a base price of approximately $114,000, positions Xiaomi to compete in the luxury EV sector against models like the Tesla Model S Plaid.

With the record-breaking prototype setting the stage, Xiaomi’s bold ambitions in the electric vehicle world are clear. Production for the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is slated to begin by March next year, and Xiaomi’s drive to claim the Nürburgring lap record for production four-door EVs is just the beginning of what could be a transformative era for the tech giant.
