That is exactly what BMW has proven with the standard BMW M2, which managed to beat the more expensive and more exclusive M2 CS around the Nürburgring, despite using the same engine output.
A Track Kit That Changes Everything
The secret behind this achievement is BMW’s new M Performance Track Kit, a factory-developed package designed to sharpen the M2 where it matters most on a circuit.
Instead of chasing extra power, BMW focused on the areas that truly shape lap times: chassis balance, aerodynamics, suspension response, and stability at high speeds. The result is a regular M2 that suddenly feels anything but regular.
Around the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, the M2 equipped with this kit recorded a lap time of 7:25.068, beating the latest M2 CS by half a second.
Faster Despite Tough Conditions
The lap was completed on the full 20.83 km Nürburgring Nordschleife, known worldwide as the Green Hell, and the result was independently verified by TÜV Rheinland.
What makes the number even more impressive is that the run did not happen in perfect conditions. The track was hot, temperatures were high, and there were traces of oil in the famous T13 section.
Even with those challenges, the M2 delivered a cleaner and faster lap than its more exclusive sibling.
No Extra Horsepower, Just Better Control
BMW did not boost the engine or increase turbo pressure. The M2 kept its standard power output.
The improvement came from the M Performance Track Kit, priced at around €23,500 in Germany, or roughly $27,000 before taxes and installation.
The package includes an adjustable front splitter, aero flicks, and a large swan-neck rear wing that can be manually set to Race Mode for stronger downforce at high speeds.
It also adds a motorsport-inspired coilover suspension setup, giving the car sharper control while keeping it road legal. That means owners can still drive the car to the track, enjoy it hard, and drive it back home.
Built With Real Motorsport Thinking
This was not a simple styling package. BMW M engineers developed the components alongside the M Performance Parts team, with aerodynamic testing carried out in BMW’s own wind tunnel.
The chassis setup was handled by Nürburgring expert Jörg Weidinger, whose experience helped give the car the balance and confidence needed to push harder through one of the most demanding circuits in the world.
