Ginetta Akula V8 Sports Car Photo Gallery
The Ginetta Akula was first introduced by the British sports car manufacturer in March 2019 at the Geneva Motor Show. At the time, the brand announced it would begin customer deliveries in January 2020, but that timeline was delayed. Now, Ginetta is back on track, revealing a production version of the Akula. While it may not be the most conventionally beautiful supercar, it certainly stands out with its impressive technical details and performance.
The Ginetta Akula is powered by a 6.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, an upgrade from the original plan for a smaller 6.0-liter engine. This powerful engine delivers 600 horsepower, but its torque has been reduced slightly, now at 670 Nm. In a world where many cars are turning to hybrid and electric powertrains, this naturally aspirated V8 provides a refreshing return to pure performance driving.
Lightweight Construction
One of the key features of the Ginetta Akula is its lightweight construction. Thanks to its carbon fiber monocoque and carbon fiber floor, the car weighs just 1,190 kilograms—only 78 kilograms more than a Mazda Miata RF. This low weight, combined with the 6-speed manual gearbox and limited-slip differential, provides an engaging and dynamic driving experience. For those who want even better braking performance, carbon ceramic brakes are available as an option.
Performance and Handling
In a time when hybrid and electric technology dominate, the Ginetta Akula stands out as a performance-driven machine. Its 50/50 weight distribution between the axles, double wishbone suspension, and 20-inch wheels ensure excellent handling. The Akula can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of over 290 km/h (180 mph), making it a formidable competitor in the high-performance car segment.
Interior and Practicality
Despite its focus on performance, the Ginetta Akula offers a degree of practicality. With a 473-liter boot capacity, it’s surprisingly spacious for a car in its class. It also features modern comforts like an electronically adjustable steering column, adjustable pedal box, and a large 100-liter fuel tank. In comparison, a C8 Corvette only holds 70 liters, but the Akula can travel up to 724 kilometers (450 miles) on a single tank, making it a more viable option for long-distance driving.
Price and Availability
The Ginetta Akula is a limited-production car, with only 20 units to be built. As expected, the price tag reflects its exclusivity. While the original estimated price was £340,000 (about $448,000 or 1,680,000 SAR), the official price has been set at £275,000 (around $362,300), excluding taxes and shipping.
Yhe Ginetta Akula is a unique entry into the world of high-performance sports cars. Its lightweight design, naturally aspirated V8 engine, and balanced performance make it stand out in a market increasingly dominated by hybrids and electric vehicles. Despite some delays, Ginetta has delivered a car that captures the essence of pure driving excitement.
