Xiaomi has announced that its electric YU7 GT has achieved what the company describes as the world’s first autonomous driving lap of Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife, completing the legendary circuit without human intervention in 10 minutes and 29.483 seconds.
While autonomous laps have been completed at other racetracks before, Xiaomi says the YU7 GT is the first production vehicle to accomplish the feat specifically at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Around 10 and a Half Minutes Without a Driver Versus Just Over 7 Minutes With One
The autonomous lap was approximately 3 minutes and 7 seconds slower than the vehicle’s human-driven benchmark.
During development, the YU7 GT previously recorded a manual lap time of 7 minutes and 22.755 seconds. Independent verification records have also cited another lap time of 7 minutes and 34.931 seconds.
According to Xiaomi, the run serves as an early benchmark for autonomous driving software in production vehicles, particularly because the test took place on one of the most demanding circuits in the world after the model had already entered commercial production.
Over 1,000 Horsepower From an Advanced Electric Platform
The Xiaomi YU7 GT is built on an 897-volt silicon carbide high-voltage architecture and uses a 101.7 kWh ternary lithium battery pack paired with the company’s Super Motor V8s EVO powertrain.
The system produces a maximum output of 738 kW, equivalent to 1,003 horsepower.
Performance figures include:
- 0–100 km/h in 2.92 seconds.
- Electronically limited top speed of 300 km/h.
- CLTC-certified driving range of approximately 705 km.
The vehicle also supports ultra-fast charging, capable of adding up to 570 km of range in just 15 minutes.
Engineered for Heat Management and High-Speed Stability
Xiaomi placed significant emphasis on thermal management during development.
The battery features an advanced cooling layout designed to minimize cell temperature increases during high-power discharge while maintaining stable current distribution under extreme electrical loads.
The system was also engineered to provide rapid heat dissipation during high-speed directional changes, helping support the autonomous driving algorithms under demanding track conditions.
Pricing and Sales Performance
The Xiaomi YU7 GT starts at 389,900 yuan in China, equivalent to approximately $57,600.
A higher-spec version is available from 429,900 yuan, or around $63,500, positioning the model among the premium end of China’s domestic electric SUV market.
The YU7 GT recorded sales of 8,736 units in May 2026, representing an 11.5% decline compared with April’s 9,876 deliveries.
That followed significantly stronger results earlier in the year, including:
- 37,869 deliveries in January 2026.
- 39,089 deliveries in December 2025.
According to data from China EV DataTracker, those figures represented the model’s strongest delivery months to date.
The achievement highlights Xiaomi’s ambitions beyond electric vehicle performance, showcasing the company’s growing focus on autonomous driving technology as it attempts to establish itself among the industry’s leading EV manufacturers.
