Ford has announced the recall of more than 422,000 vehicles across the United States due to a problem involving windshield wipers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall affects 422,613 vehicles, including 2021 to 2023 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models, in addition to 2022 and 2023 Ford Super Duty trucks such as the F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, F-550 SD, and F-600 SD.
According to regulators, the issue is related to the windshield wiper arms, which may crack or break, potentially causing the wipers to stop working completely while driving.
Although the defect may seem minor at first, malfunctioning wipers can create a serious safety risk, especially in poor weather conditions such as heavy rain, snow, or fog, where drivers rely heavily on clear visibility to avoid accidents.
Ford said the defect could increase the risk of crashes due to reduced driver visibility, particularly at higher speeds or during severe weather.
This type of issue is considered relatively serious because windshield wipers are one of the vehicle’s most basic and important safety systems, helping drivers maintain a clear view of the road in different conditions.
The NHTSA said Ford dealers will inspect the wiper arms in affected vehicles and replace defective parts if necessary, free of charge.
Ford is expected to begin sending initial notification letters to affected owners starting April 13, 2026, informing them of the safety risks. Additional letters will be sent later once the final repair solution becomes available.
Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) for the affected vehicles have been searchable on the NHTSA website since April 1, 2026, allowing owners to check whether their vehicles are included in the recall.
This recall is part of a series of campaigns regularly seen across the automotive industry, as manufacturers move quickly to address technical or mechanical issues before they develop into larger safety concerns.
Super Duty trucks, Expedition, and Navigator models remain some of Ford’s most important vehicles in the US market, making this one of the company’s largest recalls in recent months.
