While Tesla continues to face production delays with its long-anticipated Semi, Volvo Trucks has quietly surged ahead in the electric transport race, recently reaching a major industry milestone: 5,000 electric trucks sold across the globe.
Since entering the electric truck market in 2019, Volvo Trucks has built a strong international presence, supplying zero-emission vehicles to customers in over 50 countries. These trucks have now collectively traveled more than 170 million kilometers without emitting CO₂, offering reduced noise pollution and a more comfortable driving experience. From construction sites to city centers, Volvo Trucks is redefining what heavy-duty, sustainable logistics can look like.
With eight fully electric models in its lineup, Volvo Trucks delivers solutions for a wide range of transport needs. These include the FL Electric, FE Electric, FM Electric, FM Low Entry, FMX Electric, FH Electric, FH Aero Electric, and VNR Electric. The company also benefits from the broader Volvo Group’s innovations, including Mack Trucks, which recently launched its own Class 8 electric tractor.
Compared to Tesla’s modest production of around 140 Semi units since 2022, Volvo Trucks has taken a more measured and results-driven approach. Its consistent rollout has earned it a 47% market share in Europe’s heavy electric truck segment for the fifth consecutive year, with nearly 2,000 trucks registered. In North America, Volvo Trucks captured more than 40% of the electric truck market in 2024, with strong demand in key regions such as Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, Norway, and Sweden.
Volvo Trucks isn’t stopping at battery-electric technology. Its roadmap for the decarbonization of heavy transport by 2040 includes fuel-cell electric trucks and renewable-fuel-powered internal combustion engines using green hydrogen, biogas, and HVO. This multi-path strategy positions Volvo Trucks as a comprehensive sustainability leader in the commercial transport sector.
Later this year, Volvo Trucks will launch the next-generation FH Electric long-haul truck, boasting an enhanced electric axle and a driving range of up to 373 miles (600 kilometers). As the market continues to evolve, Volvo Trucks is proving that consistent delivery, global strategy, and real-world performance are what move the electric revolution forward.
