Introducing the Golf R 333, an exclusive model available only in Germany with limited availability. With a hefty price tag of €76,410, all 333 units are likely already spoken for. So, what do you get for that Porsche Cayman-like price? The Golf R 333 features the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder EA888 engine found in the standard Golf R, but with an increased output of 328 horsepower (333PS) and 309 lb-ft of torque, surpassing the base R’s 319 horsepower.
According to Hakim Halimi, Head of Product Marketing at Volkswagen R, the Golf R 333 sets a new standard as the first R model with a carefully curated specification that fulfills all performance expectations, thanks to its comprehensive range of features.
The R333 boasts several notable features, including R-Performance Torque Vectoring with Vehicle Dynamics Manager. This advanced system not only distributes power between the front and rear axles but also between the two rear wheels, significantly enhancing the car’s sporty performance, particularly during cornering. Additionally, the Drift and Special driving profiles, specifically tailored for the Nürburgring racetrack, offer an exhilarating driving experience outside of public roads. To further accentuate its motorsports character, the R333 is equipped with the R Performance exhaust system from Akrapovič, featuring titanium rear silencers, and stylish black 19-inch Estoril wheel rims with semi-slick tires. Lastly, the top speed of the R333 has been increased to 270 km/h.
The engine tuning of the Golf R 333 Limited Edition has been optimized to deliver an exceptionally quick response to load changes. The turbocharger is preloaded to maintain a constant speed during partial-load driving, resulting in faster power delivery for subsequent acceleration. Additionally, the open throttle valve during overrun phases enhances dynamics and on-road performance. This design enables quicker build-up of engine torque and significantly improves engine responsiveness when the driver releases and re-applies the accelerator. Starting from Friday, 2nd June, interested customers can place orders for the Golf R 333 Limited Edition at German dealerships. Delivery of these vehicles is expected to commence in October this year. The production of all 333 units will take place in Wolfsburg, with a scheduled timeframe in September to ensure the first models are ready for customer handovers in October. As an added bonus, a special customer event is planned at the Autostadt for all Golf R 333 Limited Edition buyers who choose to pick up their vehicles in Wolfsburg, Germany, during October.
