Volkswagen Expands Its Electric SUV Lineup With the New ID. Unyx 08

Volkswagen has officially revealed its first electric SUV developed with XPeng — the ID. Unyx 08, a bold new model that brings a glowing “wolf” emblem to the brand’s growing EV lineup in China. Set to reach dealerships in 2026, this SUV marks another major step in Volkswagen’s electrification strategy for the world’s largest electric vehicle market.

The ID. Unyx 08 was unveiled just six months after the ID. EVO concept debuted at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. Built by Volkswagen Anhui, a joint venture between Volkswagen and JAC Motors, the new SUV represents the first tangible result of Volkswagen’s technology partnership with XPeng, with additional models — including an electric sedan — already in development.

Design and Exterior Details

Measuring 5,000 mm in length, 1,954 mm in width, and 1,688 mm in height, with a 3,030 mm wheelbase, the ID. Unyx 08 fits between the Tiguan and Atlas in overall size but offers a longer wheelbase than either. The production model stays remarkably faithful to the original concept, preserving its sleek surfaces, frameless doors, and muscular proportions. The illuminated wolf badge integrated into the third brake light under the rear spoiler adds a distinctive visual signature.

Subtle adjustments distinguish it from the concept version — revised headlights and taillights, new shut lines on the hood and tailgate, and visible ADAS sensors integrated into the body. It rides on striking five-spoke copper-accented alloy wheels with Brembo brake calipers, reinforcing its performance-oriented identity.

Interior and Technology

Although Volkswagen hasn’t released full images of the cabin yet, the company confirmed that the ID. Unyx 08 will feature an AI-powered virtual assistant and an L2++ semi-autonomous driving system. Expect a large infotainment display dominating the center console, accompanied by a digital instrument cluster neatly integrated behind the steering wheel — a layout consistent with China’s current high-tech EV trends.

Powertrain and Performance

The ID. Unyx 08 will be offered exclusively as a battery-electric vehicle, powered by an 800-volt architecture and a CATL-supplied lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. Two configurations will be available — single-motor and dual-motor all-wheel drive — with a CLTC range exceeding 700 km (435 miles).

According to China’s MIIT data, the rear motor delivers 308 hp (230 kW), while the front motor adds 188 hp (140 kW), for a combined output of 496 hp (370 kW) in the AWD variant.

Expanding Volkswagen’s Chinese Portfolio

Once it launches, the ID. Unyx 08 will join the ID. Unyx 06 crossover — based on the Cupra Tavascan — and the ID. Unyx 07 sedan in the Volkswagen Anhui lineup. A new electric sedan sharing its architecture with the XPeng P7 is also in the pipeline.

Volkswagen aims to release 30 new models in China over the coming years, 20 of which will be electric or hybrid, reinforcing the brand’s long-term commitment to innovation and electrification in one of its most strategic global markets.
