The Shark, priced around $53,400, offers an all-electric range of 100 km (62 miles) and a combined range of 822 km (522 miles). With dimensions similar to the Ford Ranger, the BYD Shark represents the kind of competition the Ford electric pickup will face.

Their mission is to create a low-cost, efficient platform that will support the new Ford electric pickup and future Ford EVs.

Farley has praised the Skunkworks team for “over-delivering” by simplifying the design, which will help reduce manufacturing costs. The flexible platform being developed for the Ford electric pickup will also be used for multiple electric models, enhancing Ford’s ability to scale production and improve profitability.

Production Delays and Strategic Plans

Despite its potential, the Ford electric pickup faces production delays. Originally expected to launch in 2025, the truck is now scheduled for release in the second half of 2027. This delay could impact Ford’s market share, as Chinese automakers like BYD continue to expand their presence with affordable EV options.

Ford plans to produce the Ford electric pickup at its Tennessee plant, while battery costs are expected to decrease with the opening of a new LFP battery facility in Michigan in 2026.
