While much of the global automotive industry continues to focus on new launches and electrification, the used-car market is quietly telling a different story—one where the United Arab Emirates plays an increasingly important role. According to data reported by Yonhap News Agency, the UAE ranked among the world’s leading destinations for used vehicle exports from South Korea in 2025.
During the January to October period, exports of used Korean vehicles to the UAE reached a value of $337 million, placing the country firmly within the top tier of global markets by export value. While some regions imported larger volumes of lower-priced vehicles, the UAE’s position reflects demand for better-specified, higher-value used cars—an indicator of a more mature and selective market.
This trend comes as South Korea’s used-car exports enjoy a standout year overall. Official trade data shows that export value surged by more than 80% year-on-year, reaching around $8.4 billion in the first 11 months of 2025. At the same time, exports of brand-new vehicles softened slightly, highlighting how used cars are becoming an increasingly important pillar of Korea’s automotive trade.
When both new and used vehicles are combined, South Korea’s total car exports rose by 2% to $64.7 billion. Used vehicles alone accounted for 12.7% of that total—more than double their share a year earlier. In contrast, exports of new cars fell by 4.2%, a decline linked to U.S. tariffs and overseas production expansion by groups such as Hyundai Motor Group.
Industry officials attribute the growing global appeal of Korean used cars to improved build quality, advanced technology, and the strong reputation Korean brands now enjoy worldwide. A weaker Korean won has also helped make these vehicles more competitively priced in international markets.
For the UAE, these figures reinforce its status not just as a buyer, but as a regional hub for premium used vehicles—serving local demand while also supporting re-exports across the wider Middle East. As global market dynamics continue to shift, the UAE’s role in the used-car trade looks set to grow even further.
