Get ready for an adrenaline overload. Toyota has unveiled one of the wildest Camry projects ever created, a one-off engineering masterpiece powered by two separate engines and a combined seven cylinders, producing an astonishing 700 horsepower through an all wheel drive system.
A Seven Cylinder Toyota Camry? Yes, and It’s Every Bit as Crazy as It Sounds
Forget everything you know about the Toyota Camry as a sensible family sedan. Toyota used the Super Taikyu endurance racing series in Japan to showcase a radical experimental version developed by its skunkworks racing division, Gazoo Racing.
Hidden beneath the widened bodywork and aggressive aero package is a powertrain unlike anything ever seen in a Camry. Instead of relying on a conventional four cylinder or hybrid setup, Toyota engineers installed two completely separate engines, creating a unique seven cylinder monster capable of producing 700 horsepower.

Front Engine
Up front sits Toyota’s familiar G16E-GTS 1.6 liter turbocharged three cylinder engine. Found in performance models such as the GR Yaris, GR Corolla, and Lexus LBX Morizo RR, it produces around 300 horsepower and powers the front wheels.
Rear Engine
The real surprise lies behind the front seats. Toyota installed its new G20E turbocharged 2.0 liter four cylinder engine in the area normally occupied by the rear seats.
Currently under development, this engine delivers approximately 400 horsepower and drives the rear axle independently.
Combined, the two engines produce a total output of 700 horsepower, creating an all wheel drive Camry unlike anything Toyota has ever built. The project also features a loud side exit exhaust system that leaves no doubt about its intentions.
A Second Camry Inspired by Japan’s Bosozoku Culture
The white 700 horsepower monster was not alone.
Toyota Gazoo Racing also revealed a black Camry inspired by Japan’s famous Bosozoku tuning culture.
This version uses the new 400 horsepower G20E engine mounted under the hood, paired with rear wheel drive and a manual transmission. Its interior is even more outrageous, featuring fur covered dashboard trim, a glass shift knob, and a crystal chandelier hanging from the roof, making it feel more like a rolling lounge than a race inspired sedan.
Will a High Performance Camry GR Reach Production?
Unfortunately, the twin engine 700 horsepower Camry is not expected to enter production. It serves primarily as a showcase of Toyota’s engineering creativity, much like legendary experimental projects such as the Volkswagen Scirocco Bi-Motor and Mercedes-Benz A38 AMG.
However, the appearance of the new 400 horsepower G20E engine is particularly significant. Its public debut adds weight to reports that Toyota is preparing a new generation of performance cars, including the return of the Celica, a new MR2, and the next generation Supra.
While a twin engine Camry may remain a fantasy, enthusiasts can still hope Toyota eventually develops a true Camry GR powered by this impressive new engine.
