Toyota is recalling more than 508,000 vehicles in the United States because of a problem with the instrument cluster display that could prevent drivers from receiving important safety information while on the road.
According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall covers 508,354 vehicles and includes certain 2025 and 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid models.
The issue is linked to the instrument cluster display, which may fail during vehicle startup. If the display does not operate correctly, drivers may lose access to critical information that is normally shown directly in front of them.
The problem goes beyond simply losing the visual display. The NHTSA says an instrument cluster failure during startup may also deactivate several safety related functions, including the hazard lights, turn signals, seat belt warning system and smart key reminder.
These systems play an important role in everyday driving, especially the turn signals and hazard lights, which help communicate a driver’s intentions to other road users. If they are unavailable without the driver immediately realizing it, the risk of a crash or injury could increase.
Toyota’s solution will be a software update rather than a large mechanical repair. Dealers will update the affected vehicles’ display software free of charge, according to the NHTSA.
That should make the recall process relatively straightforward for owners compared with campaigns that require replacement parts or extensive workshop work.
With 508,354 vehicles involved, the recall is significant in scale and highlights how software related faults are becoming increasingly important in modern vehicles. Instrument clusters now do far more than display speed and fuel information, with many warning systems and driver alerts integrated into the same digital interface.
