A collection of some of the most exciting sports cars from both Toyota and Hyundai will be showcased at an upcoming event scheduled before the month ends.
While Hyundai has emerged as a strong competitor to Toyota, the rivalry hasn’t stopped the two automakers from collaborating. In fact, they are joining forces to co-host a major car event in South Korea later this month. The Hyundai N x Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival will feature an array of road-ready sports cars, motorsports vehicles, and unique prototypes from both brands.
Set to take place on October 27 at Everland Speedway in Yongin, the event will highlight models like Toyota’s GR Supra and GR86, alongside Hyundai’s Elantra N (known locally as Avante N) and the all-electric IONIQ 5 N.
Visitors can also expect to see Toyota’s AE86 H2 and GR Corolla concept vehicles, both of which are equipped with liquid hydrogen combustion engines.
Hyundai’s hydrogen-powered N Vision 74, a car reportedly nearing production despite recent rumors of its discontinuation, will also be on display. Additionally, the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec, which holds the record in the modified electric SUV/crossover category for the Pikes Peak hill climb, will make an appearance. Hyundai will also showcase its i20 N Rally 1 Hybrid and i20 N Rally 2 rally cars.
It remains uncertain whether this marks the beginning of a broader collaboration between the two automakers, but the event has been labeled as the “inaugural collaboration” between Toyota and Hyundai in South Korea. Although it’s too early to predict significant outcomes, Toyota has a history of partnerships, such as its long-standing collaboration with Subaru on the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 since their agreement in 2008.
Interestingly, both Toyota and Hyundai’s CEOs are expected to meet two days prior to the festival. According to The Korea Economic Daily, Akio Toyoda and Euisun Chung are likely to discuss their shared commitment to hydrogen technology, as both companies continue to explore the potential of fuel cell vehicles. Toyota has recently strengthened its relationship with BMW, while Hyundai is finalizing preparations for the 2025 release of its new Nexo model. Whether this meeting will result in future collaborations between the two brands, particularly in the realm of hydrogen or other innovations, remains to be seen. With both companies capable of producing high-performance, affordable sports cars, there’s hope for more exciting developments ahead.
