While no vehicle is completely immune to problems, these trucks have earned solid reputations based on owner feedback and long-term reliability data. Still, experts recommend always performing a pre-purchase inspection before buying any used vehicle.
Here are five used pickup trucks that stand out for their reliability.
Ford Maverick
Recommended model years: 2023–2025
The Ford F-150 may dominate sales charts, but it’s actually Ford’s smaller pickup that appears on Consumer Reports’ list.
The Ford Maverick is built on a unibody platform shared with the Ford Escape, making it more car-like than traditional body-on-frame trucks. That doesn’t mean it lacks capability, though. When properly equipped, the Maverick can tow up to 4,000 pounds, and buyers can also opt for all-wheel drive.
One of its biggest advantages is efficiency. The available hybrid powertrain delivers an impressive 37 mpg combined, making it one of the most fuel-efficient trucks available.
In terms of reliability, owners have reported a few minor concerns, including occasional transmission quirks and brake issues. However, the truck has performed well overall. The main advice is to avoid the 2022 launch model, as several early issues were addressed starting with the 2023 model year.
Honda Ridgeline

Another unconventional pickup that makes the reliability list is the Honda Ridgeline.

Even with those minor concerns, the Ridgeline remains a dependable used pickup — particularly when choosing one of the recommended model years.
Hyundai Santa Cruz

The Hyundai Santa Cruz represents a modern interpretation of the pickup concept, blending crossover comfort with the practicality of a cargo bed.
Compared with the Maverick, the Santa Cruz offers slightly stronger towing capability — about 1,000 pounds more when properly equipped — and buyers can also opt for a turbocharged engine that provides additional power.
Where the Santa Cruz really stands out is its driving experience. It behaves much more like an SUV than a traditional pickup, offering a smooth ride and a well-appointed interior that make it particularly appealing as a daily vehicle.
Reliability reports show a few minor complaints, mostly involving small body hardware issues, such as interior lighting problems, along with occasional squeaks or minor leaks. Overall reliability scores have been strong, though it’s worth noting that long-term reliability data is still somewhat limited because the model is relatively new.
Nissan Frontier

Interestingly, the most common complaints from owners haven’t been mechanical at all. Instead, they mostly involve paint and trim quality.
While cosmetic issues can be frustrating, they’re far less concerning than mechanical failures. Because of that, the Frontier remains a dependable choice for buyers seeking a traditional midsize pickup — especially when selecting one of the recommended model years.
Toyota Tacoma
