EMC has taken the old military Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon and turned it into something truly wild. The project is called Camo Wolf, and it brings the classic W461 G-Class back with a completely different personality, one that mixes old-school toughness with modern V8 muscle.
This is not the usual G-Wagon built to cruise through luxury districts and attract attention outside high-end hotels. This one feels much closer to the G-Class’s original identity, back when it was designed to handle rough terrain, hard use, and real off-road duty. EMC clearly wanted to preserve that raw character, but also give it the kind of performance the original could only dream of.
The build starts with a 1991 Mercedes 250GD Wolf, a former military-spec model that originally used a simple OM602 diesel engine producing only 90 horsepower. That may have suited its job back then, but EMC decided to take things in a very different direction.
Under the hood now sits a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 borrowed from General Motors. That one change transforms the vehicle completely, pushing output all the way to 430 horsepower. It is a massive leap that turns this once-humble utility truck into a serious machine with real attitude. EMC also upgraded the suspension with a Bilstein setup, making sure the extra power is supported by better control both on the road and away from it.
What makes the Camo Wolf even more interesting is the contrast between its military look and its much more refined cabin. From the outside, it still looks rugged, purposeful, and ready for anything. Step inside, though, and the atmosphere changes.
The cabin has been retrimmed in rich Sweetgrass leather, while natural oak accents add warmth and a more classic feel to the dashboard. EMC also updated the interior with enough modern touches to make the vehicle easier to live with in 2026, but without stripping away the charm that makes the old G-Wagon special in the first place.
Then comes the price, and this is where things get serious. EMC’s conversion starts at $185,000, and the LS3 V8 upgrade adds another $55,000. That means the final price can rise to around $240,000, which puts it in the same territory as a brand-new Mercedes-AMG G63.
But that is exactly the point of a build like this. Nobody buys something like the Camo Wolf because it is the logical choice. They buy it because it offers something a modern G-Wagon cannot fully recreate. It has heritage, character, and a much stronger connection to the roots of the G-Class, but with the sound and punch of a proper V8.
For some people, that combination will be far more appealing than a factory-fresh G63. The newer car may be faster, more advanced, and packed with technology, but this EMC build feels more soulful. It is louder in personality, rougher around the edges, and far more distinctive.
In the end, the Camo Wolf is the kind of machine built for people who love the idea of a classic off-roader, but do not want to live with classic performance. It keeps the spirit of the original military G-Wagon alive, then adds enough power and presence to make sure nobody forgets it.
