The Nissan Skyline Is Finally Coming Back And Now We Know When

After years of rumors and uncertainty surrounding one of Japan’s most famous performance nameplates, Nissan has finally given Skyline fans something concrete to look forward to. The all new 2027 Nissan Skyline is expected to make its debut in December 2026, introducing the 14th generation of a name that has been part of Nissan’s history for decades.

According to comments from Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa reported by Nikkei Asia, the new V38 generation Skyline will play an important role in the company’s next chapter. More than simply replacing the aging current model, Nissan sees the new Skyline as a showcase for how quickly it can develop future cars using new digital technologies.

A New Skyline After 13 Years

The current V37 Skyline has been around since 2013, making the arrival of its replacement a long overdue moment for fans. What makes the new car particularly interesting, however, is how quickly Nissan says it has been developed.

Using generative AI alongside advanced digital engineering tools, Nissan managed to shorten the development process to just 26 months, roughly half the time required for the previous generation.

Espinosa described the Skyline as more than a symbol of performance. It is also the first Nissan to go through this faster development process with artificial intelligence playing a major role.

Nissan clearly sees this approach as part of its future. The company plans to use AI based development methods across more than 90 percent of its upcoming vehicle projects, with the aim of reducing both development time and costs.

The Skyline Is Staying a Sports Sedan

For enthusiasts worried that Nissan might turn the Skyline into yet another crossover, there is some reassuring news. The V38 is expected to remain a proper sports sedan powered by an internal combustion engine.

A twin turbocharged V6 is widely expected, although full technical specifications have yet to be revealed. More importantly for Skyline fans, the new generation is expected to retain the performance focused character associated with the name rather than moving into an entirely different segment.

The V38 platform could also have a life beyond Nissan. Reports suggest it may provide the foundation for the next generation Infiniti Q50, which is expected to arrive as a 2028 model.

There is also an interesting possibility surrounding the Skyline’s debut. Nissan’s December reveal window lines up with the Nismo Festival at Fuji Speedway on December 6. Nissan has not confirmed that the car will debut there, but unveiling a new Skyline at one of Japan’s most famous racing circuits would certainly be a fitting way to bring the nameplate back into the spotlight.

ArabGT’s Take

The most encouraging part of this news is not simply that another Skyline is coming. It is that Nissan appears determined to keep the formula enthusiasts actually care about.

A sports sedan, an internal combustion engine, and potentially a twin turbo V6 sound far more appropriate for the Skyline badge than the crossover rumors that have circulated in recent years.

At the same time, the way Nissan developed the car could make the V38 an important test for the company. Building a new Skyline in only 26 months with heavy use of AI is impressive on paper, but a Skyline has always been about more than development speed and technology. It needs character.

We will find out soon enough whether Nissan has managed to combine those modern development methods with the personality that made the Skyline name famous in the first place.

What do you think? Can a Skyline developed in just 26 months with the help of AI still capture the mechanical character of generations such as the Hakosuka and GT-R, or would you rather see Nissan take a more traditional approach to developing a car this important?
