The Mercedes-AMG GLC Electric SUV Sets Its Sights on Porsche with Over 900 Horsepower

Mercedes-AMG is preparing something massive for its electric lineup. The performance division is working on a wild, high-output version of the upcoming electric GLC — and leaks from inside the company suggest it will deliver more than 900 horsepower. If these figures hold true, the new AMG GLC will enter a completely new arena of luxury EV performance.

A Triple-Motor AMG Monster on the Way

According to Autocar, AMG wants this SUV to launch off the line with the kind of force usually reserved for supercars. The target is a 0 to 100 km/h run in under three seconds — an astonishing number for a family-sized SUV. Power will come from three axial-flux electric motors: one mounted up front and two driving the rear axle, giving the GLC enormous output and very sharp control of torque distribution.

To preserve battery life and driving range, AMG will cap top speed at 155 mph (250 km/h), even though the powertrain is capable of more.

A New Battery Approach with Direct Cell Cooling

What truly sets this model apart is its battery technology. Instead of relying on traditional cells, AMG has chosen cylindrical cells paired with a clever direct cooling design that routes coolant around each individual cell. This means the SUV can deliver big performance repeatedly without suffering power fade after hard acceleration.

This system takes inspiration from the brutal 1,340 hp Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept — a showcase of where AMG wants to take its electric future.

Built to Battle the Electric Porsche Cayenne Turbo

The electric GLC AMG won’t be entering the market quietly. It is expected to go head-to-head with the upcoming electric Porsche Cayenne Turbo, a model believed to offer similar power and acceleration. The competition in high-performance electric SUVs is heating up fast, and AMG is clearly aiming to claim the spotlight.

Electric, But Still Full of Emotion

Like what Hyundai accomplished with the Ioniq 5 N, AMG is developing a sophisticated system of artificial engine sounds and simulated gear shifts through a virtual transmission. The idea is to preserve that familiar AMG “sensation” — the drama, the excitement, the emotional kick — even though the car is fully electric.

Bold Looks and a Sharper, Sportier Cabin

Visually, the AMG version will look far more aggressive than the standard electric GLC. Expect performance bumpers, large air intakes, active aero pieces, and AMG sport wheels, along with design details inspired by the dramatic AMG GT XX concept.

Inside, the SUV will get sport seats, AMG-specific trims, and that mix of luxury and athleticism you expect from the brand.

2026 Will Be a Defining Year for AMG

The year 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most important in AMG’s history. The brand is preparing to launch a high-performance electric sedan based on the GT XX concept, followed by an even more extreme electric SUV producing more than 1,000 horsepower. AMG’s electric chapter isn’t just ambitious — it may end up being even more daring than its combustion-engine legacy.
