Mercedes-Benz has released the first official teaser images of a new camouflaged coupe undergoing winter testing in Sweden. While the vehicle’s proportions clearly reference the Mercedes-AMG CLE, the company has confirmed that this is not a standard production model, nor a new AMG trim.
Instead, the car represents the second project from Mercedes’ ultra-exclusive Mythos series — a limited-production lineup designed to sit at the very top of the brand’s portfolio.
CLE as a Foundation, Not the Final Product
Mercedes appears to be using the CLE as a technical and dimensional base, but the Mythos model seen in testing goes well beyond the regular CLE range.
Visual details seen in the teaser images point to substantial re-engineering:
A large fixed rear wing, indicating a focus on aerodynamic stability
A heavily revised front bumper with significantly enlarged air intakes
A wider and more aggressive stance than the CLE53
These changes suggest a vehicle developed with fewer constraints than a conventional series-production model.
Part of the Mythos Lineup
The Mythos series is Mercedes’ most exclusive category, positioned above AMG and Maybach. Vehicles under this label are produced in very limited numbers and are intended to showcase design freedom, engineering ambition, and brand identity rather than sales volume.
The first Mythos model was the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, an open-top performance car limited to just 250 units worldwide. That model was previously experienced firsthand by Mousub Shashaa, founder of ArabGT, offering early insight into the direction Mercedes intends for the Mythos program.
The newly teased coupe appears to follow the same philosophy, but in a closed-body, performance-focused format.
Powertrain Still Unconfirmed
Mercedes has not released technical specifications, but it has confirmed that the upcoming Mythos model will deliver higher performance than the CLE53, which is powered by a turbocharged inline-six engine.
Based on the size of the front air intakes and the positioning of the model within the Mythos hierarchy, industry expectations point toward a more powerful powertrain, potentially involving AMG’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, though this has not been officially confirmed.
Not a Black Series Model
Despite early speculation, Mercedes has not described the car as a Black Series variant. Instead, the Mythos designation indicates a different role — one focused on exclusivity, design expression, and mechanical character rather than traditional AMG performance sub-branding.
Details such as production numbers, pricing, and the final model name remain undisclosed.
ArabGT’s View
This upcoming car should be understood as a Mythos model inspired by the CLE, not an extension of the CLE lineup itself. Mercedes is using familiar proportions while allowing significantly more freedom in design and engineering.
If the final production model stays close to what the teasers suggest, it will further establish Mythos as Mercedes’ platform for low-volume, high-impact vehicles — offering something distinct from both mainstream AMG models and traditional luxury flagships.
More information is expected as testing continues.
