The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Gets Bolder Richer and Still Keeps the V12

Mercedes-Maybach has given its flagship S-Class a fresh update for 2027, and the message is clear from the first glance. This is not a subtle car, and it is not trying to be. The latest version leans even further into presence, luxury, and spectacle, while still holding on to one of its biggest statements of all: a V12 engine in select markets.

This is not an all-new generation, but it does not feel like a minor touch-up either. The front end now carries much more visual weight, led by a grille that is 20 percent larger than before. It is framed by illumination, wears a glowing Maybach script, and is joined by an illuminated hood ornament and lit Maybach badges on the C-pillars. The new lighting signatures at the front and rear add even more theater, while rose-gold details give the car an extra layer of richness.

Seen from the side, the Maybach still has the long, elegant proportions that define it, but the updated details make it feel more polished. New 20-inch and 21-inch wheel designs join the lineup, and the self-leveling center caps keep the Mercedes emblem upright at all times. It is a small detail, but on a car like this, those details matter. Buyers will also have plenty of room to make the car their own, with a huge range of exterior finishes, including new shades and two-tone combinations.

Step inside, and the Maybach returns to doing what it does best. The rear cabin remains the real centerpiece, designed less like a back seat and more like a private lounge. Reclining and massaging seats, twin 13.1-inch displays, remote controls for comfort and entertainment functions, and premium touches like a refrigerator and champagne flutes all reinforce that sense of occasion. The ambient lighting system, with 199 LEDs and 64 color options, only adds to the atmosphere.

Up front, the cabin now follows the updated S-Class with a more screen-heavy layout built around the MBUX Superscreen. It combines a 14.4-inch central display with 12.3-inch screens for the driver and passenger, all running the latest Mercedes software. At the same time, Maybach has expanded the options for trim, upholstery, and color combinations, giving customers even more freedom to tailor the car to their own taste.

Under the hood, the headline remains the survival of the 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12. In the United States and a number of other markets, the S680 continues with 621 horsepower, preserving the effortless character that has long defined the top Maybach. Other regions will move to updated V8 options depending on local regulations, while the S580 now delivers 530 horsepower from a revised mild-hybrid V8. Some markets will also continue to offer a plug-in hybrid version. Whatever the engine, the focus stays the same: quiet power, smooth delivery, and absolute comfort.

That comfort is backed up by an upgraded chassis setup that includes air suspension, adaptive damping, rear-wheel steering, and the latest suite of driver assistance systems. Everything about the car is designed to make the experience feel calmer, smoother, and more isolated from the outside world.

The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is set to arrive in the second half of 2026, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. What this update really shows is that Maybach is not moving away from excess. It is embracing it more confidently than ever, blending old-school prestige with modern technology in a way few luxury sedans still can.
