The Honda Insight is making an unexpected comeback — but not in the form many people remember.
After disappearing from Honda’s lineup four years ago, the Insight returns for the 2027 model year with a radical transformation. The hybrid sedan that once focused on fuel efficiency has been reborn as a fully electric crossover, wearing a bold new design and signaling Honda’s deeper push into the EV era.
A Familiar Name With A New Mission
For years, the Insight name represented Honda’s commitment to efficiency and hybrid technology. Now, the brand appears ready to give that name a completely new purpose.
Instead of returning as another hybrid sedan, the new Insight enters the market as a compact electric crossover, reflecting the global shift toward SUVs and battery-powered vehicles. It’s a clear sign that Honda wants to position the Insight as part of its future electric lineup rather than its past hybrid legacy.
A Sharp, Modern Design
Visually, the 2027 Insight looks nothing like its predecessor. The new crossover adopts a far more aggressive and modern appearance, highlighted by distinctive boomerang-shaped lighting elements at the front and rear.
A continuous LED light strip connects the design and gives the car a futuristic presence, following the styling trends seen in many upcoming 2026 and 2027 electric models.
Interestingly, the new Insight closely resembles the Honda e:NS2, a model currently sold in China. That similarity suggests Honda may have used the Chinese EV platform as a foundation for this new global vehicle.
Electric Power And Everyday Range
While Honda has not revealed every technical detail yet, the early numbers suggest the Insight will offer solid everyday usability.
The electric crossover is expected to deliver over 500 km (about 310 miles) of driving range on a single charge according to the WLTC cycle. Power is believed to come from a 201-horsepower electric motor producing 310 Nm of torque, paired with a 68.8 kWh battery pack.
Drivers looking for a more engaging experience will also find a Sport mode, which sharpens throttle response and adds artificial sound effects to enhance the driving feel.
A Cabin Focused On Technology
Inside, the new Insight reflects the digital direction of modern EV interiors.
A 12.8-inch central infotainment display dominates the dashboard, complemented by a 9.4-inch digital instrument cluster. The cabin also features premium touches such as a 12-speaker Bose sound system, ventilated seats, wireless charging, and even a built-in fragrance diffuser.
Traditional climate control buttons have disappeared as well, with most functions integrated into the touchscreen — a design approach increasingly common in modern Chinese EVs.
When It Goes On Sale
Honda will begin taking orders for the 2027 Insight in Japan starting March 19, with launches in other global markets expected to follow shortly after.
A Bold Reinvention
Reviving the Insight name as a fully electric crossover is a bold move from Honda. Rather than simply bringing back the hybrid sedan people remember, the company is reshaping the model into something entirely new — a modern EV designed for a market increasingly dominated by electric SUVs.
