Toyota has officially unveiled the 2025 Land Cruiser facelift, marking a major mid-cycle refresh for its iconic full-size SUV. This latest update introduces the model’s first-ever hybrid powertrain, while still maintaining the traditional gasoline-only variant for those who prefer it.
Refreshed Exterior with Functional Enhancements
The visual updates may be modest, but they serve a clear purpose. Both the front and rear bumpers have been reshaped to deliver a sleeker, more modern aesthetic. Hybrid variants stand out with distinctive badging on the tailgate and side panels, highlighting their combined power output. Additionally, a 1,500-watt power outlet has been added to the rear for the first time, boosting the SUV’s practicality for camping trips and off-grid adventures.
The hybrid variant rides on 18-inch alloy wheels in the GR trim and 20-inch wheels in the VXR version, and features a bold honeycomb front grille that adds to its rugged appeal.
Interior Updates Focus on Utility
Inside, precision and practicality take center stage. One of the key changes is a more accurate speedometer. The hybrid model also adds a dedicated gauge to monitor battery charge levels for the electric motor.
2025 Land Cruiser Hybrid: Powertrain and Performance
Two trims are available in the hybrid lineup: the Land Cruiser VXR and the Land Cruiser GR. Both models are equipped with a hybrid system combining:
A 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine delivering 409 hp and 650 Nm of torque
An electric motor adding 48 hp and 290 Nm of torque
Together, they generate a combined output of 457 hp and 790 Nm. Power is channeled through a 10-speed automatic transmission, reinforcing the SUV’s off-road and on-road performance capabilities.
Fuel tank capacity varies by trim—68 liters for the GR and 98 liters for the VXR—while fuel consumption stands at 10.9 km per liter. The hybrid model has a curb weight of 3,310 kg, reflecting its full-size platform and robust drivetrain.
Gasoline Version Remains Available
For traditionalists, Toyota continues to offer a version powered exclusively by the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, rated at 409 hp and 650 Nm of torque. This variant, also paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox, can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. It includes a larger 110-liter fuel tank and an average fuel efficiency of 10.1 km per liter.
