Tesla Sets October Reveal For Roadster After Nearly A Decade Of Waiting

After nearly a decade of waiting, Tesla has finally put a date on one of its most anticipated launches.

The second generation Tesla Roadster, first shown back in 2017, is now set to make its long awaited return on October 1, 2026. Tesla has begun sending official invitations to existing reservation holders, confirming that the event will take place in Waco, Texas.

The reveal is scheduled for 8:30 PM Eastern Time, which means 3:30 AM the following morning in Saudi Arabia. Invitees also have a firm RSVP deadline, with attendance confirmations due before midnight on September 16.

Tesla Finally Sets A Date For The New Roadster Reveal

For longtime followers of the Roadster project, the announcement is significant. Tesla has spent years teasing the car while production timelines continued to shift, so this event could finally provide a clearer picture of what the finished version will actually look like.

The invitation itself has already added more fuel to the excitement. Tesla is using the phrase “Go for launch,” paired with imagery showing bright jets coming from the rear of the car.

That has immediately revived talk of the SpaceX package Elon Musk has mentioned several times over the years.

Could The SpaceX Package Finally Become Real?

The proposed system is expected to use cold gas thrusters inspired by aerospace technology associated with SpaceX.

The idea is to use those thrusters to help improve acceleration, cornering, and overall grip, potentially giving the Roadster performance figures unlike anything normally seen in a road car.

Musk has previously claimed that a Roadster equipped with the SpaceX package could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph, or 0 to 96 km/h, in around 1.1 seconds. He has also mentioned launch forces of up to 2.75G.

Those figures have always sounded extreme, which is why this event could be especially important. If Tesla plans to demonstrate the technology in person, it could finally show whether those earlier claims are realistic.

The choice of Waco may also be meaningful. The city is located roughly 90 minutes from Tesla’s headquarters in Austin and sits relatively close to SpaceX’s engine testing facility in McGregor.

That location has raised speculation that Tesla could use the event for a live demonstration rather than a simple static reveal.

Pricing And Production Still Matter

Tesla previously announced a starting price of $200,000 for the standard Roadster, which is around 750,000 Saudi riyals.

The more exclusive Founders Series was priced at $250,000, or roughly 937,500 Saudi riyals.

However, the October event is expected to focus on presenting the production version rather than marking the beginning of customer deliveries.

Current expectations suggest that actual production at Gigafactory Texas could begin sometime between 2027 and 2028.

That means even after the reveal, buyers who reserved the car years ago may still have more waiting ahead of them.

Even so, October 1 could finally give Tesla fans and reservation holders something they have been waiting years to see: a much clearer answer on what the new Roadster really is and whether its most ambitious promises are finally ready to move beyond the concept stage.
