Tesla has reached another landmark moment in its rapid growth story, officially announcing that it has produced nine million vehicles globally.
The news was shared through Tesla Asia’s account on X, the platform owned by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. This celebration wasn’t about a single factory or region—it reflected Tesla’s total cumulative production across all of its plants around the world.
According to the company, the historic nine-millionth vehicle rolled off the production line at Giga Shanghai, once again highlighting the factory’s central role in Tesla’s global manufacturing network.
To mark the occasion, Tesla shared a photo of the Giga Shanghai team gathered on the factory floor around a white Model Y—the car that symbolized this achievement. Tesla’s message was simple but telling: “Our 9-millionth vehicle globally just rolled off the line at Giga Shanghai. Thank you to our owners and supporters around the world.”
Tom Zhu, Tesla’s Executive Vice President for Automotive, also joined the celebration, praising teams across Tesla’s factories and thanking customers for their continued trust. “Congratulations to all Tesla factories on this incredible achievement,” he wrote, “and thank you to our owners for your ongoing support.”
What makes this milestone particularly impressive is how quickly it arrived. Just 207 days earlier, Tesla had announced the production of its eight-millionth vehicle—a red unit built at Giga Berlin. Producing another million vehicles in less than seven months underscores the company’s accelerating pace and manufacturing scale.
Giga Shanghai remains Tesla’s largest production facility, having crossed four million units in cumulative output earlier in 2025. The plant builds the Model 3 and Model Y for both the Chinese market and export, making it Tesla’s most important global export hub.
This achievement also adds to a strong period for Elon Musk personally. The Tesla CEO recently became the first individual in history to surpass a net worth of $700 billion, reportedly reaching $749 billion—an indication of the expanding influence of his businesses, even as Tesla faces increasingly fierce competition from Chinese EV powerhouse BYD.
