Smart is preparing to officially launch its new #6 EHD plug-in hybrid sedan in the Chinese market on June 11, making it the first sedan in the brand’s history.
Smart #6 Price and Specifications
Pre-orders for the new model start at 189,900 Chinese yuan, equivalent to approximately $28,000 USD or AED 103,000.
The vehicle features a five-door fastback sedan design, complete with a large glass hatch and an optional active rear spoiler.
Smart has adopted its latest design language for the #6, giving it a front-end appearance that closely resembles the brand’s newest models.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the cabin features a dual-screen infotainment setup first introduced on the Smart #5.
Other highlights include:
- Sennheiser premium audio system
- 7.1.4 surround sound configuration
- Maximum output of 2,000 watts
Powertrain and Performance
The Smart #6 EHD uses a plug-in hybrid system consisting of:
- 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 161 hp
- Electric motor producing 268 hp
- Three-speed DHT automatic transmission
The combined system generates 429 horsepower, with power sent exclusively to the front wheels.
Battery Options and Electric Range
The sedan will be offered with two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery options:
20 kWh Battery (SVOLT)
- Capacity: 20 kWh
- Electric range: up to 135 km (CLTC)
41 kWh Battery (CATL)
- Capacity: 41 kWh
- Electric range: up to 285 km (CLTC)
Smart has not yet announced charging speeds for the #6. However, the Smart #5, which uses the same hybrid system, requires:
- 20 minutes to charge the smaller battery from 30% to 80%
- 15 minutes for the larger battery to reach the same level
Up to 1,810 km of Total Range
According to Smart, the #6 can travel up to 1,810 km on a full battery charge and a full fuel tank.
When the battery is depleted, fuel consumption ranges between 4.75 and 4.79 liters per 100 km.
Chassis and Driving Dynamics
While final suspension specifications have not been officially confirmed, reports suggest the car will use:
- MacPherson strut front suspension
- Multi-link rear suspension
Smart also revealed that Mercedes-Benz engineers played a major role in tuning the chassis and suspension, with frequency-selective dampers available as part of the equipment package.
The company states that low battery charge levels will have minimal impact on performance, with the vehicle still capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds in its slowest operating condition.
Dimensions
The new Smart #6 measures:
- Length: 4.91 m
- Width: 1.92 m
- Height: 1.51 m
- Wheelbase: 2.93 m
Kerb weight ranges between 1,990 kg and 2,099 kg, depending on the trim level.
Smart’s First Sedan Under the Geely Era
The Smart #6 is part of the company’s strategy to expand its lineup following its transformation in 2019 into a joint venture equally owned by Mercedes-Benz and Geely.
The brand’s current range consists of the #1, #3, and #5 SUVs, while the #6 marks Smart’s first entry into the sedan segment and the first Geely-era Smart model to be launched exclusively as a plug-in hybrid vehicle from day one.
