Rolls-Royce Unveils the One-of-a-Kind Phantom Goldfinger for Bond’s 60th Anniversary

To mark the 60th anniversary of the James Bond classic Goldfinger—and following Aston Martin’s special DB12 edition—Rolls-Royce has introduced an extraordinary one-of-a-kind creation: the Rolls-Royce Phantom Goldfinger. Unlike the DB12’s Goldfinger Edition, this Phantom draws inspiration from the iconic 1937 Phantom III Sedanca de Ville, driven by the villain Auric Goldfinger in the film. The outcome is a meticulously crafted, dual-tone masterpiece, brought to life by Rolls-Royce Bespoke after three years of dedicated work.

This Goldfinger-themed Phantom is more than a mere lookalike; it’s a rolling homage to the 1964 movie. The color scheme—a striking black and yellow—perfectly replicates the original Phantom III seen in the film. The Spirit of Ecstasy figurine even reveals touches of gold, echoing the smuggling plot of Goldfinger, where Auric Goldfinger used his car to transport precious metals.

A Bespoke Project Three Years in the Making Creating the Phantom Goldfinger was no ordinary project. It took Rolls-Royce Bespoke three years to bring it to life, with an entire year dedicated just to perfecting the intricate dash inlay. This 3D stainless steel design is a contour map of Switzerland’s Furka Pass, a location where Bond famously tailed Goldfinger’s Rolls-Royce. The attention to detail extends to the starlight headliner, which replicates the night sky over the Furka Pass as it was on July 11, 1964, the last day of filming at this iconic location. For a touch of luxury, the starlights emit a subtle golden glow.

A Lavish Display of Gold In tribute to the movie’s theme, this Phantom incorporates gold in nearly every conceivable place. The interior boasts 18- and 24-carat gold accents on the center consoles, air vents, speakers, and even the glovebox, which displays a debossed quote from Goldfinger himself. The iconic AU1 number plate, symbolizing gold on the periodic table, was specially secured for this car and adds to its authenticity. The VIN plate is also plated in 24-carat gold, and the trunk features a golf club plated in gold—a nod to Oddjob, Goldfinger’s henchman.

A custom console compartment houses the pièce de résistance: a solid 18-carat gold bar, crafted in the shape of the Phantom Speedform. This genuine gold bar, hidden within the console, is estimated to be worth half a million dollars based on today’s gold prices. Rolls-Royce has remained discreet about the car’s total price, but it’s safe to say this Phantom Goldfinger is a luxury only few could afford.

Playful Yet Iconic Features Other features offer playful nods to Goldfinger‘s famous scenes, including custom rear picnic tables displaying a fictional map of Fort Knox, Goldfinger’s ultimate heist target. This map took six months to design, adding another layer of exclusivity. Additionally, the iconic Rolls-Royce umbrellas, stored in the doors, feature the same color scheme as those in the movie, and the trunk displays the 007 logo projected onto the ground as a subtle reference to Bond’s tracking device.

With special 21-inch wheels featuring floating center caps that mimic those of the 1937 Phantom III, the Goldfinger Phantom leaves no detail overlooked. Each aspect, from design to functionality, was meticulously planned and executed for a “significant” Rolls-Royce client in England.

Nick Rhodes, Bespoke designer at Rolls-Royce, described the creation process as “one of the Bespoke Collective’s greatest creative journeys to date,” celebrating the Phantom Goldfinger’s fusion of elegance and whimsy. This one-off masterpiece is a testament to the power of Rolls-Royce Bespoke, skillfully weaving cinematic history with luxury automotive craftsmanship.
