In addition to refreshing the A5 and debuting the highly anticipated electric A6 E-Tron, Audi has introduced the third generation of the Q5, a luxury crossover that continues to offer petrol engine options.
As one of Audi’s top-selling models, the Q5 plays a crucial role in the U.S. market, the world’s most significant automotive market. Over 1.6 million units of the first generation were sold, with more than a million units of the second generation currently on the roads. For Audi, venturing into the mid-size family car segment is a critical endeavor. Given the stakes, the new model must embody the concept of “the same car, but improved and superior to any other,” as stated by the German automaker.
The new Q5 is built on the Premium Platform Combustion platform, similar to the new Audi A5. Audi claims that this platform provides a high degree of flexibility.

Mechanical Specifications
Two versions of the 2025 Audi Q5 will be available in the U.S. market:
- The standard model features a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 268 horsepower.
- The SQ5 is equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine delivering 362 horsepower and 550 Newton-meters of torque.
According to the European WLTP test cycle, the SQ5 achieves between 11.6 and 12.5 km per liter of gasoline. However, it has not yet been tested by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Both engine options are paired with a 7-speed S Tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. The new Q5 models utilize a combination of spring systems. The standard model is designed for comfort with steel springs, while a sport suspension (standard on the SQ5) is available for a more dynamic driving experience, thanks to frequency-selective damping. An air suspension system with adaptive dampers is offered as an option. Audi highlights a broader range between comfort and sport modes, with progressive steering included as standard.
Exterior Design
Audi’s latest design philosophy is evident in the new Q5’s exterior, which is softer compared to its predecessor—though the second generation was never particularly aggressive. The car still features prominent lines to guide the viewer’s eye, but the overall appearance is more refined.
At the front, the new grille is described by Audi as “sporty,” and the fascia includes single-unit headlights positioned 1.6 inches higher than in the previous model, with separate DRLs inside. LED daytime running lights are also featured. Notable design details include the folds at the bottom of the doors, which minimize the visual bulk, and smooth side lines that lead seamlessly from the front to the rear wheel arches.
The rear of the car appears wide and well-proportioned, with lights that span the entire width of the vehicle, enhanced by second-generation OLED lighting units. The exhaust pipes are fully functional, replacing the fake pipes found in previous models.
The 2025 Audi Q5 will be available in 11 colors, including a standout blue, with wheel sizes ranging from 18 to 21 inches, depending on the configuration.
Interior Design
The interior of the new 2025 Audi Q5 is more aggressive, angular, and aligned with Audi’s contemporary design language, while also paying tribute to the brand’s iconic cabin designs from the 2000s. The interior feels robust, built to last far beyond the expectations of the first owner.
The cabin includes multiple USB-C charging ports in both the front and rear, along with a wireless phone charger. Some glossy plastic accents are present, and a series of buttons for controlling mirrors, seats, locks, and lights are conveniently placed near the door handles.
The centerpiece of the interior is a large curved OLED MMI display, comprising an 11.9-inch instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen. The instrument cluster provides essential information for the driver, while the MMI touchscreen handles all other functions. For passengers, an optional 10.9-inch display is available.
