Porsche Creates the First-Ever Special Edition of the 993 Speedster

Porsche Creates the First-Ever Special Edition of the 993 Speedster

After secret photos of an unusual Porsche surfaced upon its arrival at Los Angeles Airport, the mystery was officially solved. It turns out that Porsche has created a one-of-a-kind version of the 993 Speedster, built to the specifications of a special customer.

Porsche’s Sonderwunsch program, which translates to “special wishes,” allows select customers to collaborate with the German automaker on unique projects, within certain limits, of course, as not all ideas can be realized.

Who owns the world’s only 993 Speedster?

Italian designer Luca Trazzi wanted a unique Porsche 993 to add to his collection of Porsche Speedsters. However, Porsche never officially produced a 993 Speedster, with only three special models ever made: one for Ferry Porsche, one for Jerry Seinfeld, and one as part of a factory restoration. But recently, a fourth model was revealed.

Trazzi played a role in designing this car, working closely with the Porsche Sonderwunsch team. The car is based on a 993 Carrera Cabriolet and features a custom-cut windshield and rear decklid. Additional unique details include 18-inch black Turbo twist wheels with body-colored pinstripes, classic mirrors, yellow and black seat trim, and headlights featuring the four-point running light design of newer Porsches.

The 993 Speedster boasts a distinctive yellow exterior named “Otto.”

The car is equipped with a front spoiler, side skirts, and rear panels inspired by those of the Porsche 993 Turbo. The shark fin rock guard in front of the rear wheels pays homage to the original 1989 911 Speedster.

Mechanical Specifications

This unique sports car shares its engine, chassis, and brakes with the 993 Carrera RS. The special 993 Speedster is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six engine, delivering 300 horsepower.

This custom Porsche was showcased at Monterey Car Week before heading back to Europe, where it will be delivered to its owner, Luca Trazzi. During the build, Porsche allowed Trazzi to observe the painting process, even giving him some of the paint used on the car.

The Sonderwunsch Division

Porsche’s Sonderwunsch division has been customizing production models and creating one-off specials for decades. The process was formalized for customer orders a few years ago.

For a project like this, fees start at $100,000, though costs can quickly escalate from there, and that’s excluding the base car for the special project.
