A recall has been issued for over 79,000 Jeep SUVs due to a problem with their backup camera systems.
This issue has been identified in a range of 2024 Jeep models, highlighting a minor defect affecting the functionality of the rearview cameras.
More than 79,000 Jeep SUVs Impacted by the Issue
Among the 2024 Jeep lineup, the Grand Cherokee has emerged as one of the most frequently recalled models this year. According to Stellantis, Jeep’s parent company, the recall campaign includes over 79,300 vehicles, such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer. The identified issue involves the rearview camera system, where a software error could cause the camera image to fail to display. This malfunction compromises the driver’s visibility, increasing the likelihood of accidents while reversing.
Affected vehicles in this recall include the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L (long-wheelbase version), Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer. The root cause of the defect lies in incorrect programming within the rearview camera module, which impacts the display functionality, posing a safety risk by reducing rear visibility.
How Jeep Plans to Address the Backup Camera Defect
To resolve this problem, Jeep dealerships will offer a free software update for the rearview camera module. Stellantis has announced that affected vehicle owners will start receiving notifications about the recall beginning January 21, 2025. Customers who wish to confirm whether their vehicle is part of this campaign can visit the Stellantis website and use the vehicle’s chassis number to verify its status under the recall code D5B. Alternatively, owners can contact their local Jeep dealerships for assistance and further information.
This recall campaign demonstrates Stellantis’s commitment to addressing safety concerns, no matter how minor. The company has emphasized that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure affected vehicles are repaired efficiently and at no cost to owners.
