Renault is all set to pull the covers off the fourth-generation Renault Twingo tomorrow, November 6 — but it seems the internet got there first. A series of leaked photos has already given fans a full look at the compact city car’s exterior and interior, spoiling the big reveal a day early.
This isn’t just another update; it’s a whole new chapter for the French icon. The Twingo returns as a fully electric model, designed for modern city life while keeping the fun, quirky character that made it a favorite for decades.
Classic Soul, Modern Style
From the outside, the production version stays remarkably true to the 2023 concept — only now with more practical touches. It gets regular door handles, fresh wheel covers, slightly reshaped LED lights, and new bumpers wrapped in protective cladding to handle daily use.
The car keeps its playful one-box shape and signature round headlights, inspired by the 1992 original, but now it’s a bit longer and comes with five doors for easier access. Renault’s designers seem to have struck that sweet balance again — blending nostalgia with clean, contemporary design, just like they did with the revived Renault R5.
A Simple, Cheerful Cabin
Inside, the new Twingo takes a more grounded approach. The fancy materials of the concept are gone, replaced by sturdy hard plastics and comfy fabric seats — more practical for production, but still full of charm.
A compact infotainment screen sits above a small instrument cluster that borrows from Dacia parts, while good old-fashioned physical controls for the AC and steering functions are thankfully still there. A yellow stripe runs across the dash, adding a splash of energy, and there’s even a mysterious red piece between the front seats that adds a touch of character.
Small, Smart, and Electric
Underneath, the Twingo rides on Renault’s AmpR Small platform (formerly CMF-BEV) — the same base that will support the Renault R5, R4, and Nissan Micra. Renault hasn’t released specs yet, but it’s expected to use a single electric motor and a compact LFP battery, perfectly suited for city commutes.
Affordable Electric Mobility
When it hits the market, the Twingo will compete in the small A-segment, going up against the Dacia Spring, Leapmotor T03, and Volkswagen ID.Every1, as well as slightly larger affordable EVs like the Fiat Grande Panda and Citroën e-C3.
Former Renault CEO Luca de Meo had promised that the Renault Twingo would start at under €20,000 ($23,000) before incentives, with leasing options from €100 ($115) per month — aiming to make electric driving accessible to everyone.
