If the name McMurtry Spéirling doesn’t sound familiar, it refers to a compact electric hypercar that made headlines by breaking the Goodwood Hill Climb record in the previous year. Piloted by former Formula 1 driver Max Chilton, this petite yet high-performance electric vehicle completed the course in an impressive 39.08 seconds. Surpassing the previous record set by Romain Dumas in the VW ID.R in 2019, the charming single-seater shaved off 0.8 seconds. Notably, it also demonstrated its breathtaking acceleration capabilities by reaching 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a mere 1.4 seconds.
Looking ahead to June 2023, McMurtry Automotive is delighted to share the exciting news that the remarkable electric powerhouse is entering production, albeit with a restricted production run limited to just 100 vehicles. The upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed will showcase a validation prototype next month, paving the way for pre-production prototypes in 2024, ultimately leading to customer deliveries scheduled for 2025. As for the price tag, brace yourself for this revelation, as the Spéirling Pure is available for £820,000 before taxes. At current exchange rates, this amounts to approximately $1.04 million or €954,000.
In exchange for your investment, you will receive an exclusive track-only electric vehicle crafted with a carbon fiber monocoque. Its compact dimensions measure at just 3.45 meters (135.8 inches) in length, 1.58 meters (62.2 inches) in width, and a mere 1.02 meters (40.1 inches) in height. Surprisingly, despite its low stance, the vehicle can comfortably accommodate drivers up to 6’7″ (two meters) in height and weighing up to 150 kilograms (330 pounds) due to the inclusion of adjustable pedals and steering wheel. Impressively, this petite powerhouse boasts an astonishing 1,000 horsepower (745 kilowatts) while weighing less than 2,200 pounds (1,000 kilograms).
The vehicle now features smaller 18-inch wheels, slightly lighter than the previous year’s 19-inch wheels. These wheels are paired with wider 270-mm front and 300-mm rear slick tires. Additionally, a new fan system has been introduced, boasting a 15 percent increase in efficiency and a 14 percent reduction in weight compared to the previous setup. The 60-kWh battery pack has the capability to be fully charged in just 20 minutes and provides enough power for 10 laps at Silverstone when pushed to its maximum performance.
McMurtry Automotive has implemented further refinements to enhance the suspension, bodywork, and aerodynamics of the vehicle. In addition, they have fine-tuned various components such as the pedal box, electrical architecture, brakes, chassis, and power steering unit to reduce overall weight. Notably, the vehicle now features a slightly improved gearbox, a newly developed lightweight battery with improved thermal management, and the availability of anti-lock brakes as an optional feature, providing enhanced performance and safety options.
