McLaren, the British marque renowned for crafting some of the world’s quickest supercars, is preparing to enter the performance SUV segment for the first time — a move the company had firmly avoided for years. The decision may seem surprising, but it aligns perfectly with today’s market, where nearly every luxury automaker is racing to deliver high-performance, high-riding models.

Although McLaren has yet to formally confirm the project, recent reports indicate that the company presented a five-seat prototype to its global dealers last month. Early impressions suggest a direct rival to the upcoming 2026 Porsche Cayenne Turbo, featuring a muscular stance that stands out even among today’s crowded field of luxury SUVs.
The Name? Still a Mystery.
McLaren has always mixed emotional names and sharp alphanumeric codes — Artura, Senna, 750S, and so on. Internally, the SUV is currently referred to as P47, though that’s just a placeholder. The brand has also registered trademarks such as Aeron and Aonic, either of which could surface when the car is officially revealed.
What’s Powering McLaren’s First SUV?
Early expectations suggest that McLaren may adapt a version of the hybrid V8 from its W1 hypercar. In the W1, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 produces 916 hp and 900 Nm, paired with an electric motor generating 342 hp — for a combined 1,258 hp. It’s an extreme setup designed to challenge the new Ferrari F80.
For the SUV, McLaren is expected to tone down the output for more practical daily performance and a longer electric range.
