Mazda Unveils the Updated 2027 MX-5 for Europe

Mazda has unveiled the updated 2027 MX-5 for the European market.

Customer deliveries are expected to begin across Europe in September 2026, while pricing will be announced closer to launch.

2027 Mazda MX-5 Receives Subtle Updates

Mazda has introduced a limited range of updates to the ND-generation MX-5 Miata for the 2027 model year in Europe. Changes include a new exterior color, a special edition model, and minor engine revisions aimed at improving both performance and sound.

The current generation debuted in 2014 and has already received updates in 2018 and 2024.

Mazda has made no changes to the exterior body design for 2027. However, a new paint option called Zinc Green has been added, a color that also appears on the 2027 CX-30.

The biggest addition is a new special edition called Yakudo, available exclusively with the soft-top convertible roof. It features silver exterior accents, silver brake calipers, and a two-seat cabin trimmed in Alcantara upholstery.

Kazari and Homura Variants Continue

Mazda will continue offering the premium-oriented Kazari trim and the sport-focused Homura version.

The Homura receives:

  • 16-inch black wheels from RAYS
  • Red Brembo brake calipers
  • Revised Bilstein shock absorbers
  • A front strut tower brace for improved chassis rigidity

Interior Updates

The cabin remains largely unchanged, retaining the 8.8-inch infotainment display introduced during the 2024 update.

Mazda has also enhanced the standard safety package by adding a driver monitoring system capable of detecting signs of fatigue or distraction.

More Power From the 1.5-Liter Engine

In European markets, the MX-5 is now available exclusively with Mazda’s 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine after the company discontinued the 2.0-liter unit due to emissions regulations, although it remains available in the UK.

For 2027, Mazda has increased engine output by 4 horsepower and revised the exhaust note to deliver a more direct and engaging driving experience.

The engine now produces:

  • 134 horsepower
  • 155 Nm of torque

Carbon dioxide emissions have also been reduced from a previous range of 140–142 g/km to 139 g/km.

Fuel consumption under the WLTP standard has improved to 6.1 L/100 km, compared with the previous range of 6.2–6.3 L/100 km.

Current Generation Expected to Last Until 2029

Despite being on sale for more than a decade, reports suggest the current MX-5 generation will remain in production until 2029.

Its successor is expected to adopt some form of hybrid assistance for its four-cylinder engine while preserving the lightweight character that has long defined the MX-5 driving experience.
