Mazda has stolen the spotlight at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, revealing two concept cars that capture its vision for the future — the MAZDA VISION X-COUPE and MAZDA VISION X-COMPACT. Both models embody the theme “The Joy of Driving Fuels a Sustainable Tomorrow,” blending cutting-edge technology with the emotional connection that defines Mazda’s soul.
Together, they show where Mazda is heading — a future where driving pleasure, human connection, and sustainability move forward side by side.
MAZDA VISION X-COUPE – Power Meets Purpose
The star of the stand is the VISION X-COUPE, a beautifully sculpted sports coupe that reinterprets Mazda’s Kodo – Soul of Motion philosophy. Its long, elegant proportions and athletic stance make it instantly desirable, but the real innovation lies beneath the surface.
The X-COUPE is powered by a plug-in hybrid system combining a two-rotor rotary turbo engine with an electric motor and battery pack, producing a robust 510 PS. It can travel up to 160 km in pure electric mode, and around 800 km when both systems work together. Mazda takes it further by using carbon-neutral fuel made from microalgae, paired with its pioneering Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture technology — allowing the car to actually help reduce CO₂ emissions as it drives.

MAZDA VISION X-COMPACT – Small in Size, Big in Emotion
Sharing the stage is the VISION X-COMPACT, a smaller but equally expressive concept that represents Mazda’s emotional side of smart mobility. Designed for the city yet inspired by connection, it brings futuristic design and empathetic technology together in one sleek package.
The exterior feels alive — a smooth, sealed front grille framed by fang-shaped headlights, digital mirrors, and a panoramic glass roof that gives the compact shape a sense of light and openness. It measures 3,825 mm long, 1,795 mm wide, and 1,470 mm high, perfectly balanced for urban agility while looking every bit as premium as Mazda’s larger models.
Inside, simplicity takes center stage. A flat-bottomed steering wheel and a circular digital instrument cluster replace the usual clutter, and there’s no traditional infotainment screen — your smartphone takes over those duties seamlessly.
Mazda hasn’t confirmed what powers the X-COMPACT, but its enclosed design and EV-inspired details suggest an electric direction. What truly stands out, though, is its AI companion — a digital co-driver that learns and adapts to your mood. It can chat, offer suggestions, or quietly accompany you when silence is all you need. The All-New European-Spec MAZDA CX-5
Mazda also showcased the European-spec all-new MAZDA CX-5, marking the latest evolution of its global best-seller. It pairs a 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv-G petrol engine with a 24V Mazda M Hybrid mild-hybrid system, delivering improved efficiency and smoother response. Available in both front- and all-wheel drive, it stays true to Mazda’s Jinba Ittai philosophy — that seamless connection between car and driver.
The CX-5 introduces Mazda’s E/E Architecture+, a new electrical platform that boosts digital performance and overall refinement. The interior feels more open, elegant, and tech-focused, continuing Mazda’s commitment to blending craftsmanship with innovation.
