KTM has unveiled a heavily updated version of the 790 Duke for 2027, giving its popular middleweight naked bike a sharper design, improved ergonomics, upgraded suspension, and a lighter overall package.
Known among riders as “The Scalpel” for its precision handling, the 790 Duke receives its most comprehensive update since its original debut nearly a decade ago.
Sharper Chassis And Improved Suspension
While the bike retains its steel chrome molybdenum frame, KTM has reworked the riding position and suspension setup to bring the 790 Duke closer in character to its larger siblings, the 990 Duke and 1390 Super Duke R.
The WP APEX suspension package now includes:
- A 43 mm upside down open cartridge fork with 150 mm of travel and separate rebound and compression adjustment.
- A gas assisted rear monoshock with 170 mm of travel, offering full preload and rebound adjustment.
- A new five click adjustment system designed for quicker and easier setup changes.
A Completely Redesigned Riding Position
KTM says one of the biggest improvements for 2027 is rider comfort and control. Engineers redesigned the entire rider triangle with a wider handlebar position, revised footpeg placement, and a new seat design aimed at creating a more natural riding posture and better integration between rider and motorcycle.
Familiar Engine, Better Response
Power still comes from KTM’s 799 cc LC8c parallel twin engine.
Output remains market dependent:
- 105 hp at 9,500 rpm in global specification.
- 95 hp at 8,000 rpm for European markets.
- A 47 hp A2 compliant version for newer riders.
Torque remains unchanged at 87 Nm, but KTM has fitted a completely new exhaust system. The revised setup adds a small power increase, sheds around 2 kg of weight, and improves throttle response.
Fresh Design And Rider Focused Changes
The 2027 model receives a redesigned fuel tank, new subframe, updated triple clamps, and a more aggressive front end featuring a futuristic LED headlight design.
KTM also confirmed it will gradually phase out its controversial Demo Mode system, which previously allowed riders to access electronic features for the first 1,500 km before requiring additional payments to unlock them permanently.
The bike now rides on Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires and benefits from a new WP steering damper, while the braking system has been developed entirely in house by KTM.
Pricing And Availability
The 2027 KTM 790 Duke is expected to arrive at dealerships worldwide from late July 2026.
Although KTM has not announced official pricing, the base model is expected to remain below the $10,000 mark, with a wide range of factory accessories available for customization.

Rather than chasing headline horsepower figures, KTM has refined the bike’s core strengths, making the latest Duke look like an even sharper tool for both spirited road riding and track day fun.
