Set aside the noise surrounding Jaguar’s rebranding and the speculation about abandoning its past. Out in the Arctic Circle, the reality feels very different. What stands before us is the all-new, fully electric Jaguar Type 00—a car that doesn’t attempt to erase history, but rather reinterpret it for a new era.
This is a Jaguar that blends the serene, long-distance comfort once defined by the XJ with a dynamic edge reminiscent of the F-Type. Luxury and aggression coexist here, not as a compromise, but as a deliberate statement.
Preserving a Legacy in an Electric World
While headlines focused on new logos and corporate resets, Jaguar’s engineers were quietly doing the opposite. Instead of discarding the brand’s DNA, they returned to it. Classic Jaguars were studied in detail, not as museum pieces, but as reference points—cars engineered to understand what makes a Jaguar feel alive on the road.
The outcome is a four-door electric GT with striking proportions. Stretching beyond 5.2 meters in length and standing less than 1.4 meters tall, the Type 00 carries itself with a low, confident stance that immediately commands attention.
Performance Without Apologies
Jaguar’s approach to performance with the Type 00 leaves no room for understatement. This is not an electric car designed merely to be fast in a straight line—it is engineered to feel purposeful and engaging.
The production version delivers more than 1,000 horsepower, supported by a massive 1,300 Nm of torque. Power comes from a tri-motor setup: one motor at the front producing 350 horsepower, and two motors at the rear delivering a combined 950 horsepower. With a perfectly balanced 50:50 weight distribution and an exceptionally low center of gravity, the numbers translate into control as much as speed.
Long Range, No Compromises
Underpinning the Type 00 is Jaguar’s new JEA electric platform, paired with a large 120 kWh battery. This setup allows the car to travel up to 645 kilometers (400 miles) under strict U.S. testing standards, and more than 690 kilometers under WLTP measurements—figures that firmly place it among the longest-range electric GTs in its class.
Driving on the Edge of the Arctic
Testing took place on a frozen Swedish lake spanning one million square meters, with temperatures dropping to –15°C. Even in these extreme conditions, the Type 00 revealed a clear and confident personality.
The driving position is notably low and sporty, immediately evoking the feel of a true performance car rather than a large luxury sedan. Jaguar’s dual-chamber air suspension, combined with advanced Bilstein DT Sky dampers, delivers an impressively smooth ride—absorbing surface imperfections with an elegance that recalls the brand’s flagship sedans of the past.
Switch to Dynamic mode, and the character shifts dramatically. Up to 98% of the power is sent to the rear wheels, turning this long GT into a controlled and surprisingly playful drift machine. Digital systems monitor wheel slip up to 1,000 times per second, ensuring precision without stripping away enjoyment.
Despite its size, rear-wheel steering allows the Type 00 to maneuver with unexpected agility, giving it a turning circle comparable to much smaller vehicles.
One technical detail stands out: there is no front trunk. Jaguar chose to use the space to reinforce the front structure for enhanced crash protection, while maintaining the long hood proportions that define classic grand tourers.
Looking Ahead
The final production design of the Jaguar Type 00 is scheduled to be revealed in late summer 2026. Orders are expected to open in the fall, with the first cars reaching showrooms in spring 2027.
With the Type 00, Jaguar is not chasing trends or headlines. It is shaping a future that respects its past—proving that electrification, when approached with intent and clarity, does not dilute identity. Instead, it offers the opportunity to redefine it on Jaguar’s own terms.
