Ford Motor Co. is gearing up for a major expansion of its Mustang lineup, introducing new variants, including a four-door coupe and an off-road model with four-wheel drive, according to sources familiar with the plans shared with Automotive News.
At a recent meeting in Las Vegas, CEO Jim Farley, along with other top executives, unveiled these upcoming gasoline-powered Mustangs and other products to dealers. The presentation included a mix of physical models, photos, and digital renderings. Attendees, who were asked to surrender their cell phones for confidentiality, revealed that the meeting provided a rare glimpse into Ford’s future product plans.
One of the highlights was a rendering of the long-anticipated four-door coupe, reportedly named the Mach 4, according to two sources. Farley also showcased an image of an off-road Mustang model, featuring lifted suspension and specialized tires, which he described as exemplifying “rugged” performance.
Jim Farley, known for his flair, made a strong impression at the dealer meeting, where the Mach 4 and the off-road Mustang took center stage. The latter was emphasized as a symbol of “rugged performance,” signaling Ford’s commitment to expanding the Mustang brand as competitors in the domestic market scale back their offerings.
In addition to the Mustang Lineup, Ford is developing a compact van to replace the Transit Connect, likely inspired by the Maverick pickup. Although specific details such as the name and timeline are yet to be confirmed, it’s clear that Ford is actively working on this project. The company also introduced a low-cost electric vehicle platform, designed to support a variety of body styles and compete with emerging electric vehicles from China, reflecting Ford’s strategy to cater to both traditional gasoline enthusiasts and the growing budget-friendly EV market.
