\Claims that Ferrari is pressuring its most loyal customers to purchase the new all electric Ferrari Luce have sparked intense debate across social media. After reports suggested that dealers were quietly pushing clients toward the EV, Maranello has responded with an official statement aimed at shutting down the rumors.
Ferrari Luce Sparks Controversy as Ferrari Rejects Major Rumor
Just one month after the launch of the Ferrari Luce, the first fully electric Ferrari in the company’s history, speculation began spreading throughout the luxury automotive industry. The controversy became significant enough that Ferrari executives felt compelled to publicly address the issue.
The debate started after a report published by Bloomberg claimed that some Ferrari dealers were pressuring high value customers and long time collectors to reserve and purchase the Ferrari Luce. According to the report, customers were allegedly led to believe that refusing to buy the electric model could affect their privileged status within Ferrari and reduce their chances of receiving future limited edition or highly exclusive vehicles.
Ferrari’s Official Response
Ferrari quickly dismissed the claims through Enrico Galliera, the company’s Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, who addressed the issue during an interview with Automoto.it.
“There are many rumors surrounding the Ferrari market, but this one is completely false,” Galliera said. “Our position has been clear from the beginning. The Ferrari Luce was designed for a different type of customer and not necessarily for traditional Ferrari owners, although they are certainly welcome to purchase it if they wish.”
Galliera added that adopting such a strategy would ultimately damage Ferrari’s long term interests for two key reasons.
First, customers who are forced to buy a car they do not want are unlikely to become positive ambassadors for the brand and could negatively influence Ferrari’s reputation.
Second, dissatisfied owners would be more likely to resell the vehicle quickly, potentially flooding the used car market and hurting resale values, something Ferrari works hard to protect across its model lineup.
What Is the Real Demand for Ferrari’s First EV?
While Galliera declined to reveal exact reservation numbers for the Ferrari Luce, he stated that demand is currently meeting Ferrari’s expectations.
He also revealed that orders are evenly split between two groups. Approximately 50 percent come from new customers entering the Ferrari brand for the first time through its electric offering, while the remaining 50 percent come from existing Ferrari owners interested in experiencing the company’s electric future.
How Did the Rumor Start?
According to Bloomberg, the speculation originated from conversations with Ferrari owners who claimed that some dealers had implied that purchasing the Ferrari Luce, or even a standard production Ferrari, could strengthen a customer’s relationship with the brand and improve their chances of securing future limited production models or exclusive one off creations.
ArabGT’s Take
Rumors like these are almost inevitable when an iconic manufacturer such as Ferrari introduces its first fully electric vehicle. Traditional Ferrari enthusiasts are deeply attached to the sound and character of V12 and V8 engines, making the transition to electric mobility a sensitive subject.
From our perspective, Ferrari’s direct and public denial reflects a clear understanding of its customer base. Forcing collectors to buy a vehicle they do not want would undermine the loyalty that Ferrari has spent decades building. Protecting the brand’s prestige and long term reputation is far more valuable than chasing short term sales figures for any single model, electric or otherwise.
