Audi is preparing to enter a new chapter in the luxury SUV world with the upcoming 2027 Q9, the biggest SUV the German brand has ever built and a key model aimed at strengthening its presence in markets that demand large three row family vehicles, especially the United States.
Ahead of the official debut expected later this summer, Audi offered an early look inside the new flagship SUV, revealing a cabin focused on space, premium materials, advanced technology, and noticeably improved usability compared to previous Audi interiors.
The new Q9 will be available in both six and seven seat configurations. Buyers can choose between a traditional second row bench seat or a more luxurious setup with individual captain’s chairs featuring electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, and easier access to the third row. Up front, the seats offer massage functions and are paired with an advanced Bang & Olufsen sound system capable of delivering “4D” audio through seat mounted vibration technology.
One of the standout features is Audi’s new power operated doors, a first for the brand. The doors can open through the key fob, smartphone app, or a gentle pull on the handle, while closing can be triggered by pressing a button or simply stepping on the brake pedal. The system also uses sensors to detect nearby obstacles, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Inside, Audi continues its screen heavy approach with a large curved display stretching across the dashboard alongside a dedicated passenger screen. However, the overall layout feels cleaner and more practical than before. The center console has been simplified with wireless charging pads, oversized cupholders, a traditional volume knob, and minimal physical controls, while the gear selector has been moved to a compact steering column mounted switch to free up additional space.
Ambient lighting plays a huge role in shaping the Q9’s atmosphere. LED lighting spreads across the dashboard, doors, center console, and even the panoramic roof, which can change colors based on drive modes or even match the artwork of the music currently playing. The panoramic glass roof itself is one of Audi’s largest ever and features adjustable opacity sections capable of blocking more than 99 percent of UV rays without the need for a traditional sunshade.
Audi also appears determined to restore its reputation for high quality interiors. The Q9 reduces the use of glossy piano black plastic in favor of matte finishes, natural wood trims, textured fabrics, and upscale materials including optional alpaca wool upholstery and premium leather options.
Despite the strong first impression, the third row may not fully match the excellence of the rest of the cabin. Early impressions suggest adult space in the rearmost seats still trails some key rivals in the segment, even though the Q9 overall delivers a far more spacious and premium experience than current Audi SUVs.
The full reveal of the 2027 Audi Q9 is expected by the end of July, with sales set to begin later this year. Based on this early preview, Audi’s new flagship SUV appears ready to combine luxury, technology, and practicality in a way that feels more refined and easier to live with than any previous Audi.
