Hyundai Ioniq 3 Revealed As A Stylish New Electric Hatchback

Hyundai has officially unveiled the new Ioniq 3, a compact electric hatchback developed specifically for Europe, and while it is unlikely to reach the United States, it could become one of the brand’s most interesting EVs yet.

The Ioniq 3 immediately grabs attention with a design that feels like a modern electric evolution of the old Veloster. It combines a sharp nose, a heavily sloped roofline, and a hatchback profile with Hyundai’s signature pixel-style lighting. The rear end also features split glass and a prominent spoiler, giving the car a sporty and futuristic appearance despite its compact size.

Hyundai calls the design language “Aero Hatch,” with a focus on balancing aerodynamics and interior space. That approach helps the Ioniq 3 achieve a drag coefficient of around 0.26 while remaining significantly smaller than larger electric models like the Genesis GV60.

Under the body, the Ioniq 3 uses Hyundai’s 400-volt E-GMP platform and comes with a front-wheel-drive single-motor setup. Buyers can choose between two battery options. The Standard Range model gets a 42.2-kWh battery with up to 147 horsepower and 213 miles of WLTP range, while the Long Range version uses a larger 61.0-kWh battery and stretches range to 308 miles, although power drops slightly to 135 horsepower.

Performance is not the main focus here, but Hyundai says the Ioniq 3 can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in around 29 minutes using a DC fast charger, making it practical enough for daily use.

Inside, the Ioniq 3 becomes the first Hyundai model in Europe to feature the new Pleos Connect infotainment system. Based on Android Automotive OS, it is available with either a 12.9-inch or 14.6-inch display depending on the trim level.

More importantly, Hyundai has resisted the trend of putting every function inside the touchscreen. The Ioniq 3 still includes physical controls for temperature, heated seats, fan speed, HVAC settings, and even a dedicated volume knob, making the cabin much easier to use while driving.

The interior also focuses heavily on practicality. Hyundai says the flat floor and long wheelbase create generous space for passengers, while the hatchback offers up to 15.6 cubic feet of cargo room, including extra storage beneath the trunk floor.

Available features include heated and ventilated seats, Bose premium audio, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, and vehicle-to-load functionality that allows owners to power external devices directly from the car.

Although the Ioniq 3 is not expected to be sold in America, it highlights Hyundai’s strategy of expanding its EV lineup with smaller, more affordable models that prioritize efficiency, practicality, and design over outright speed.
